The text read for Baptism of the Lord Sunday was Mark 1:1-12. Rev. Mitchell Boone called attention to the reality that baptism is meant to be celebrated within the community - a celebration as a new member joins the community and we collectively affirm God's love present and at work in that individual. The irony, of course, being that worship took place online only and not being physically present to one another as we remember our baptism, challenges us in how we will be community to one another.
The beauty of remembering our baptism is whether or not we are physically together, we can continue to affirm the truth of our baptism - that we are all beloved children of God. Mitchell talked about the struggle to accept being accepted by God when we live in a culture that seeks continual affirmation. The desire for one more "like," one more "follow," one more "friend." Remembering our baptism is a way to affirm that God loves us regardless of what we do, rather simply because of who we are!

Rev. Keith Boone shared our first sermon of 2022, an Epiphany sermon. At Epiphany we celebrate that the Good News of Christ is not reserved for just a small group of people in the Middle East, rather an all-inclusive, all-encompassing message of God's love made known in the person of Jesus the Christ.
Spoiler alert: Keith shares some difficult news about your nativity set!

Rev. Mitchell Boone preach from Luke 2:15-20 for our 2021 Christmas Eve worship service. He called attention to the chaotic scene, not only in the text, but also in our lives. That too often the Christmas season feels like something we have to get through rather than something we celebrate... much less Good News.
In the midst of all the chaos and the tension, Mitchell also turned us to hope. Hope in the midst of the chaos and reminded us that Good News is indeed Good News for all. Even a poor, unwed, pregnant woman some two thousand years ago... even you, here and now.

Today is Saturday December 25, 2021. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Our text for this morning is John 1:1-14:
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. 9 The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. 12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.
How might the joy of today extend beyond this Christmas season? What might you need to do to ensure this feeling of hope, peace, love and joy lives and reigns daily in your life?
Today is Friday December 24, 2021. Merry Christmas Eve!
Our text for today is Luke 2:1-14:
8 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: 11 to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,

Our text for today is 2 Peter 1:16-21:
19 So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
What stories in your life were so impactful that you still share them, even years later? What made them so meaningful?

The Fourth Sunday of Advent is all about love, and what better way to celebrate love than reading Mary's Song, known as the Magnificat. Rev. Mitchell Boone invites us to think through the absurdity Mary's Song found in Luke 1:36-55. A text that flips the world upside down, a text that delivers the Good News of our redemption not from the mouths of emperors or priests, but two pregnant women.
This is a powerful text and a beautiful sermon. We'd love to hear your thoughts on Mary's Song!
