Our text for today is Isaiah 11:1-9
He shall not judge by what his eyes see,
6 The wolf shall live with the lamb,
"Take a few moments and picture this peaceful world Isaiah paints. What sounds do you hear? Are there flowers blooming? What moments of harmony surround you?"
In this week's episode, Rebecca and Phil break down the Third Sunday of Advent. Joy was the theme of the day, as was expressed through the sermon, hymns, and liturgies. They discuss joy vs happiness, poinsettias, wasp attacks, and Rebecca's process of creating liturgy.
As always, you can let us know what questions you have about the "why behind the worship," by emailing us:

Our text for today is Romans 15:4-13:
7 Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. 8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of the truth of God in order that he might confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, 9 and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written,
“Therefore I will confess you among the Gentiles,
10 and again he says,
“Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people”;
11 and again,
“Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles,
12 and again Isaiah says,
“The root of Jesse shall come,
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Here is the question for us today, how have you seen the HS moving this advent season and are you like Paul says "overflowing with hope".

Our text for today is Luke 3:7-18:
10 And the crowds asked him, “What then should we do?” 11 In reply he said to them, “Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.” 12 Even tax collectors came to be baptized, and they asked him, “Teacher, what should we do?” 13 He said to them, “Collect no more than the amount prescribed for you.” 14 Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what should we do?” He said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or false accusation, and be satisfied with your wages.”
15 As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, 16 John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
18 So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to the people.
How is this Good News for all, not just those in need?

Our text for today is Isaiah 12:2-6:
3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. 4 And you will say in that day:
Give thanks to the Lord,
5 Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously;
Pause for a few moments today and list five things you are thankful for. They can be big, small, or in between. Maybe even share those things with a friend, and ask them what makes them thankful, too.

Our text for today is 2 Corinthians 8:8-15:
“The one who had much did not have too much,
Fair balance. This is the gift of community. Your abundance is balanced by my need all while my abundance is balanced by your need. Fair. Balance.
Is fair balance what you experience in your community? How do you battle the excessive consumerism so often present during the holiday season?
The theme for the second week of Advent is Peace. Rev. Mitchell Boone explored peace through the lens of Luke 3:2-16, specifically John the Baptist in the wilderness baptizing people and calling people to live lives of compassion and generosity. John uses harsh language to get the attention of all present, and pushes them to not trust the ways of the empire, but the ways of love and peace. Mitchell reminds us that peace is not just the absence of conflict, but a holistic experience of those who live in shalom - the peace of God.
Note, Mitchell is still excited to get his "brood of vipers" pillow.
