  • Chapman and Willes on lottery possibilities
It’s draft lottery time for the Canucks and Paul and Ed discuss options for the Canucks if they land in the cherised top two spots, and options if they don’t.
The track record for the Canucks when it comes to drafts and luck isn’t exactly littered with success and Ed recounts the wheel of misfortune that started with an unlucky spin for their very first draft pick in 1970.
The lads also talk about the hiring of coach Travis Green, and if he is the right person for the lineup of prospects Vancouver has. Green professed this week to want goals, and to play a more exciting brand of hockey. Sure, that’s what the fans want to hear, but Ed surmises those words could bury Green if the team can’t follow through on his promise.
They also look at the NHL playoffs, how the Edmonton Oilers have transformed themselves with grit, and how the Canucks need to do the same.
With the draft lottery being such a big deal for local fans, Ed and Paul then look at the ongoing NFL draft, and how it has become such compelling TV, largely because it is such a big factor in the building of success in all North American sports.
Join Ed and Paul every week for Province Sports Radio as one of your sports talk options.

  • The Pat-cast: A new coach. A fond farewell
    Nikita, we hardly knew ye.
Jeff Paterson and Jason Botchford are back on the Pat-cast, powered by Eagle Ridge GM.
It's the second episode of the 2017 off-season and there's still already tons to talk about.
There's a tribute to the BFG. What the heck happened?
There's new coach Travis Green. What's his history? What's good, and what's bad about this hire? Does he have any hope of winning given the roster he's been handed?
Are there more moves to be made in the front office?
And the thrilling first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs are over. There's are lessons there for gauging the Canucks.
Which series does Botch like best in Round 2?

  • Chapman and Willes say “so long Tryamkin”
Ed Willes joins Paul Chapman for some Province Sports Radio talk about the hits that just keep coming for the Canucks. What does the departure of Nikita Tryamkin mean for the Canucks? Does it change their draft strategy? Does it make people question the accumen of the front office? Ed surmises that the upside of Tryamkin might have been the highest of all the prospects they currently have, and it’s just another cruel twist of fate for local hockey fans. You can go all the way back to Zack Kassian, but when you look at the departure of Tryamkin and also the puzzling crash of Jake Virtanen, why have the Canucks fumbled away the talents with the rarest of attributes, agility, size and muscle.
They also talk about the playoffs and when you see the size, speed and strength of the players succeeding in the playoffs, how far away are the Canucks from truly being competitive?
Are fans really attached to Canadian teams or do they just want to see good hockey no matter where the team is from.
Watching the Oilers and the Leafs, Ed is convince the Canadian Stanley Cup drought is not far away from an end, and it will be one of those two teams that snaps the streak. Let’s all remember the Chicago Cubs everyone and consider that yes, the Leafs may actually win a Cup one season soon.
Ed also talks about the Whitecaps headed into a big “derby” match with Portland, and perhaps Fredy Montero is what this team has needed since Camillo left.
They finish up with some B.C. Lions chat, Ed talked with Wally Buono this week, and he relates that after watching the national championship game in the NCAA between Alabama and Clemson, Wally saw something that he felt could translate into success for the B.C. Lions this offseason.

  • The Pat-cast: Making up for a lost week
    The Pat-cast is back.
Yes, Jeff Paterson survived NYC. He missed last week's media availiblities with the players, with management, and yes, with Willie Desjardins.
Thankfully Jason Botchford is here to fill him in.
Is Travis Green the next coach? Who is making that call anyway?
The playoffs have been high-octane, so how long till the Canucks can actually play like that?
Plus, what does Willie's wife think of the Provies, what musicals did Jeff see on Broadway and how did he come to meet Sergio Garcia?
This is the Pat-cast, powered by Eagle Ridge GM, on Province Sports Radio.

  • What went wrong for the Canucks in 2016-17
Ed Willes joins Paul Chapman to pick over the carcass of the Canucks season.
Fresh from fired coach Willie Desjardin’s press conference, Ed surmises that Willie just wasn’t a good fit in the end. He claims the former Canucks coach wanted more sandpaper in his team and that wasn’t what GM Jim Benning and President Trevor Linden gave him.
Ed also ponders what the Canucks will be over the next three years, what fans can expect and even runs through the top prospects at centre where he is convinced the Canucks will get a player.
They then look at the NHL playoffs, Ed is skeptical any Canadian teams will make it to round two, but there is agreement that the early playoff returns have been fabulous with some great hockey.
Ed then talks about his desire to go to a Steely Dan concert. Yes, Steely Dan.

  • Chapman and Willes: Sinking Canucks, the Olympics, the Whitecaps’ direction and The Masters
Ed Willes joins Paul Chapman to talk about the Canucks, their epic sink below the Arizona Coyotes and what this season really means for their future. Ed believes this season is rock bottom and while the climb may be slow, they will be better from here on it.
They talk about the NHL's decision not to go to the Olympics. And while Paul like to argue with Ed, there's consensus here, this is a really, really stupid decision.
The lads also talk about the Whitecaps and while they were heroic in some fashion this week in a loss they were clearly outclassed by better opposition, where is the team situation moving ahead.
Last, they talk Masters, and Paul, a very casual golf fan, asks Ed, a purist of the game, if it's OK to cheer against a certain golfer, hope for misfortune and see their tournament explode or if that is poor form.
All that and more in 35 minutes of Province Sports Radio.

  • What do the Canucks need to do to win back fans
What's the state of the Canucks in this town?
Are we just about events or are we a good sports town?
Patrick Johnston and Steve Ewen don't agree and will tell you why on the latest episode of Casual 'Tuesday' which is again on a Wednesday.
Have the trades been right? Have the free agents? What's with the Brandon Sutter hate?
Plus some thoughts on the Stealth.
    This is Province Sports Radio.
