S3 E2 - Welcome back to Whitgift Conversations, the podcast where we talk to staff and pupils about topics that are relevant to you.
Today’s episode is one you’re going to love whether or not you’re into sport. We’re talking to Karl Stagno, he’s the Director of Hockey at Whitgift. So I ask him how he got into this in the first place and what brought him to Whitgift but then I also find out from him what hockey actually looks like at school, how it’s changed in the time he’s been there, we talk about the values they instil in the boys at school and how to get the balance right between winning and taking part.
Karl is great and I really think you’ll enjoy this. There’s no need for a hockey stick to listen to this so come with me as we speak to the Director of Hockey, it’s Karl Stagno.

And it’s the start of term so who better to speak to than Headmaster Chris Ramsey. Now this is a great episode, we talk about some of the highlights of the summer term but we also talk about what’s coming up in the Autumn term and later in the academic year. There are many new students at school, some members of staff are new as well, so I get to quiz Chris on that too. But we also talk about something that’s been bubbling away in India so do stick around to see what that might be.
That’s all coming up in this episode so come with me as we hear from our Headmaster, it’s Chris Ramsey.

S2 E20 - Welcome back to Whitgift Conversations, the podcast where we talk to staff and pupils about topics that are relevant to you.
Now this is a cracking episode. We don’t have one guest, we have six. And they’re all in a band together so we’re talking about music; writing it, performing it, enjoying it. The band is called, ‘The Strange New Normal’ and today we’re talking to lead singer Gibran, Sam the drummer, Miles on rhythm, Patrick on lead, Joss on keyboard and Tanmay on bass. We’re going to find out what it’s like to be in the band and what this means for them all.
But we also get to hear some of their music too as we play an extract of one of their songs in the middle of the podcast and, if we’re lucky, we might be able to hear the whole song at the end of the recording.
It’s a great episode, it’s really good fun, it’s not one of the most serious episodes but that doesn’t mean the boys don’t take their music seriously; they absolutely do and I’m sure you’ll get a sense of that from this podcast.
So if this intro is the warm-up act then the main event is about to start. So come with me as we hear from the band, it’s The Strange New Normal.

In this episode we’re getting all musical. Justin Miller is the Director of Choral Music and he’s joined by Fraser Ellson, a Graduate Music Assistant. Together we talk about what choral music looks like at Whitgift, what events have happened, what’s coming up soon and whether it’s all choral music or if there are opportunities for the boys to learn something that might be considered easier to step into.
Let’s not waste any time but instead come with me as we step into music and speak to Justin Miller and Fraser Ellson.

S2 E17 - Welcome back to Whitgift Conversations, the podcast where we talk to staff and pupils about topics that are relevant to you.
Now this is a fabulous episode, we have Erin Badhan talking to us about the animals they keep at Whitgift and the reason this is a fabulous episode is that Whitgift has lizards, tortoises, snakes, guinea pigs, fish and other animals you may have never even heard of! But, most importantly, we have Erin herself who clearly loves working with children and animals (despite how the saying goes) so I love this episode because her passion shines through clearly.
But also, there’s a wonderful short story at the end of this recording regarding baby ducks and the pandemic so make sure you stick around to listen to that!
So, enough of this intro, let’s jump into our conversation right now as talk all about the animals of Whitgift School, it’s Erin Badhan.

S2 E15 - Welcome back to Whitgift Conversations, the podcast where we talk to staff and pupils about topics that are relevant to you.
In this episode we’re talking about sport, football in particular, an episode I loved recording not because I’m a huge football fan but because I’m not.
That means this episode isn’t filled with football jargon but instead we hear about how the boys experience the sport in school and why it’s so important.
Andrew Martin is the Director of Football and he’s here to talk to us today about what football looks like at school, how it helps with all subjects, we talk about the relationships the school has with different clubs and what the future looks like.
It’s a great episode, it’s for football lovers and non-football lovers alike, so come with me into school as we speak to the Director of Football, it’s Andrew Martin.

S2 E14 - Welcome back to Whitgift Conversations. This is the podcast where we talk to staff and pupils about topics that are relevant to you.
Today we’re talking to Paul Elliott, Head of Science, at Whitgift and you know, I love episodes like this one. I didn’t know Paul before the recording but I immediately discovered he’s a very likeable character and I think you’ll agree when you hear him too. Paul talks about how he got into science, chemistry in particular, but he talks all disciplines in science so while we do hear about chemistry we also hear about physics, biology and engineering too, as well as discovering what a screaming jelly baby is all about, you’ll have to wait to hear why he talks about that!
This isn’t the kind of episode I was expecting, it is one of my favourites here at Whitgift, I probably shouldn’t say that, so let’s get into it now as we speak to Whitgift’s Head of Science, it’s Paul Elliott.

S2 E13 - Welcome back to Whitgift Conversations, this is the podcast where we talk to staff and pupils about life at school.
Now when I heard this episode was coming I got very excited because it’s all to do with the student-directed Junior Play last month, Swallows and Amazons. Oscar is a Y13 student at the school and he directed this production for a three-night performance which seems to have gone down a storm.
I ask him what it was like working with a fantastic team of cast and backstage crew, what some of the biggest challenges were, what his vision was for the production and what his favourite moments were too.
It’s so good to hear from the students and this is a great episode for that. So come with me as we tread the boards and step into the world of Swallows and Amazons, it’s Oscar Robinson.
