Tony Hsieh is CEO of Zappos, one of the most well-know companies in the world, is an example of how to create and celebrate a business model of success the right way and through a set of well-thought out set of core values.
Tony Hsieh is the CEO of Zappos as well as the founder of the Downtown Project in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tony personally invested $350 million of his own money not for a traditional ROI (return on investment), but instead, as Tony says, an ROC (return on community). Having personally been out to Vegas a number of times to see the development of the project first hand I can assure you his vision is now a reality. I encourage all of you to check out the Vegas Downtown Project and plan a trip to visit and see this amazing community being built before your very eyes.
When Tony wrote his book, Delivering Happiness, he not only did so for the general public and interested customers, but more importantly for employees and leaders all over the world. It's not a secret that happy employees and happy team-members create a happy customer, product and/or customer experience. Most importantly it creates a happy working environment!
Now Tony is working to spread this model beyond his businesses with Downtown Project and his plan to revitalize downtown Las Vegas into a city that focuses on the community. Knowing Tony's history, this is a vision, already well underway, that is sure to deliver happiness to both local residents as well as people traveling now from all over the world to see Tony's project grow. As Tony says about the Downtown Project, it's all about the collisions and running into people on an everyday basis, sharing best-practices and creating a community that is supported by a central core approach, built on the very core values Tony established for Zappos.
