Bill Gately is the publisher of Christian Sports Today and Catholic Sports Today. He has worked in the sports industry for over 30 years in coaching sales, marketing and consulting. Bill is also baseball and softball bat expert and is has worked with manufacturers in both the United States and China.
Attending the University of California, Berkeley, Bill played a baseball for short period, but found that he was better suited for coaching. He also got his start selling and working with bats, which led him to be a bat expert still today. While at a Christian Coaches meeting, Bill came to the conclusion that there were no large Catholic Sports communication networks or publications.
Therefore he decided to start what are now "Catholic Sports Today" and "Christian Sports Today". These publications have exploded in readership. Bill is the perfect example of two core values of sports and our Podcast: combining life values with sports and recognizing that what happens off the field is more important than what happens on it.

Cliff Takes us further into the world of depression and the battles he fought. What did he learn from depression? Cliff shares additional information about who Cliff truly is.
In 1970, Cliff Richey was ranked as the number one tennis player in the United States and was awarded the most valuable player award on the victorious Davis Cup national team. Over his career he won 45 tournament titles including the Canadian Open, South African Open, South American Championship, Western Open, Legends Senior Tour Championships and was a semifinalist in the U.S. Open and French Open.
Cliff is the founding member of the Association of Tennis Professionals as well as the Celebrity Players Tour and has played on the Celebrity Golf Tour for 15 years where he won events in Jamaica and Baltimore. After Cliff retired, he wrote 'Acing Depression: A Tennis Champion's Toughest Match,' with his daughter Hilaire Kallendorf. Depression was a major obstacle for Cliff. This episode is a great reminder of what we all see on the outside is not always what is happening on the inside. Ironically, while his journey in the world of Tennis continued to become more successful, the more depressed Cliff became.
Despite all of his individual success, Cliff is most proud of two facts. One, that he and his sister Nancy, herself a hall of fame tennis player, formed the best brother/sister combination in the history of tennis. Two, that he is now a huge advocate for speaking to others about depression and continuing to make the public aware of one of the common diseases in the United States, if not, the world.
