First, we honor the life of Peaches Lyon Carpenter, Sam's cat of 14 years who recently crossed the rainbow bridge

Finally, Sam looks through a different lens: Spirit Animals and the connection they bring to humans. She ends tonights episode with a local legend rooted in the superstition of the black cat.

Welcome to Death Rituals Part 2, but with a focus on one specific lineage in Wietze's family tree.

Last year, Sam and I decided to begin digging into our family lineage to better understand who we are and where we come from. Every thread of who we are is woven from the stories of those who came before us. We are echos of our ancestors both recent and ancient. You cannot know who you are without dissecting the good and bad of where your blood flows from. Today we are heading back to the ancient palantine landscape throughout time  to look at their death rituals, most notably the “Talheim Death Pit”. Digging through your ancestors can be both beautiful and brutal, and today we are uncovering the dark truth of death in Neolithic Germany and beyond.

The Linear Pottery culture, also known as the Linearbandkeramik (LBK) culture ( Wietze couldn't find it in her notes during the episode, so we put it here).

Death is the inevitable guest at every dinner party. It is the only truth we all know, and the thing that carries weight in our souls as we navigate this mortal plane. For as long as humans have lived, they have died, and the traditions of saying goodbye have always been powerul displays of pure human emotion. Some are celebrations of a life looked back on with joy and dancing, while others are solemn affairs veiled in black silence. Today we are looking across time and culture to determine what it is we are all holding onto, and how we differ in our mourning. From megalothic group burials, to “sleeping bodies”, humans cherish the ones they’ve lost.

This week Sam takes us through the story of Maryland's "Lover's Lane Murders that took the lives of Mary Kline and John. L. Mahler. This case involves a twist that I certainly did not see coming and left me questioning everything I thought I knew. Did they get the right guy? You decide.

This week I've also added some spooky acoustic guitar ran through synths for background ambience. A purchase of a camera meant the purchase of film, which meant potential print orders and more film . With a business model goldmine that created repeat costumers, Kodak’s power extended far beyond the world of capturing moments. Behind closed doors, Kodak was harboring a massive secret, one that still leaves locals shaking in their docs. The above ground factories and buildings are only a small portion of what at one time existed in Kodak park. Hidden deep beneath the buildings lived Kodak’s darkest and most dangerous secret, one that had the potential to obliterate an entire community.
