Since we released two podcasts last week we’re changing it up this week. Today is throwback Wednesday … sharing our video shot on Mulholland Drive in LA with the lovely Paulina Cerrilla. Paulina was on Season 3 of the Voice with Christina Aguilera and we were on Season 2 with Ceelo Green.

We’re skipping #TBT today because we thought this was much more important. The Happy Birthday Song has been liberated! For the past 80 years, the song, Happy Birthday To You, has been under the corporate and copyright control of Warner/Chappell Music. That’s why you never hear this song in movies or on TV. But the shackles have been broken. Happy Birthday to all!

No need for bombs when you have gay icons. Last week we got to hear a great slide guitar duo, Born Crooked, play at our local State Theatre in Culpeper, VA.  We don’t see too many young people like us playing slide guitar these days. That got us thinking about the slide guitar as a possible WSW podcast … ’cause we knew there had to be some stealing going on.

Wouldn’t you know it? We got our minds blown! Everything we believed about the slide blues guitar was a lie! Looks like the “Devil down at the Crossroads” was just a Hawaiian dude.

In this episode, we talk about Dr John W. Troutman’s upcoming book, Kika Kila: How the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Changed the Sound of Modern Music, and how it is going to debunk the myth of the Diddly Bow and the African origins of blues slide guitar.
