In this episode, I have invited my friend and colleague, Emily Chow Quesada, and we talk about her upbringing, how she’s raising her son with her mother and domestic worker, and the friendships and bonds that are forged between them.

In this episode with me is Savannah Russell, an artist, a creative soul and a fantastic connector of people, especially in the artistic community of Hong Kong. We talked about her upbringing in the Philippines, her father’s influence on her usage of cleaning wipes and how doing the dishes has shown up as a meditative ritual in her life.

With me in this episode are Alison Tan and Sotiris Tsouris, a couple of creative entrepreneurs with a lot to say about the topic of who is actually doing the dishes! I had a lot of fun chatting to them about gender norms, compromises, household maintenance and just how many drinking glasses are appropriate to have in their home, that is also a special space for community gatherings and celebrations.

In our first episode, I invited Dee Cheung, who is a mother, a coach and an advocate for women’s wellbeing and so much more! Our conversation peeled back the layers of family, her upbringing, experiences with domestic workers, and the challenges and bonds around all of that. It became really clear that love and connection are central to the well-oiled machine of Dee’s household and her life in general.

This is a podcast that brings an ordinary topic, household chores into conversations that weave together intricacies of relationships, gender norms, home, cultural expectations and much more. Not to mention, it is set in the unique social and urban environment that is Hong Kong and the guests are a diverse bunch of people, with cultures and traditions inherited from their different upbringings in Hong Kong and around the world.

​This 6 part series is part of a research project that looks at the intersections of gender, labour and space, hosted by Evelyn Kwok, a researcher based in Hong Kong.
