The Diet Diaries

Why a quick fix diet will never make you happy

Listen Later

As promised, this is the “Optavia” episode.

Many of you saw me talk on IG stories recently about why this diet is so damaging for people.

And while I always try to coach and teach from a place of what you can do instead of what you can’t or shouldn’t do, this is an exception that I felt I needed to speak out about.

I talk a lot about my experience on Isagenix which is pretty comparable to Optavia-super fast weight loss resulting from extreme restriction, followed by significant rebound weight gain.

The pull to do diets like these is so strong-the promise of happiness through a “better looking” body in 4 or 8 weeks seems magical.

No matter the cost-physical, mental or emotional.

Until eating 1000 calories a day of only bars and packaged foods becomes unsustainable and the whole thing unravels. Because being a  human means that food is about way more than nutrition-and when you can’t enjoy what you’re eating or go out with friends or you’re losing your temper because you’re so hungry-then how is that diet really serving you?

I get into what diet culture actually means, why a lack of education and awareness is at the root of why these diets have become so popular and why before and after photos are totally meaningless.

This is episode is on fire. Can’t wait to hear what you think.
