The fighting between Israel and Palestinians is more intense than it has been for years.

Israeli troops have amassed at Gaza's border, with fears of an all out war.

An escalation in anger over Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, and a spate of evictions, has led to rocket fire from Hamas militants in Gaza and waves of airstrikes being launched by Israeli forces.

And it's not just conflict at the border. Inside the country, Israel's political leaders are warning that violent street clashes between Jews and Arabs could mutate into a larger civil conflict.

So is there a path back from the brink of war?
