  • Episode 79: What's the Deal with Conservative Dating Apps?

A new dating app for conservatives ("The Right Stuff") recently launched semi-disastrously so we decided to dig into what makes it bad, whether the concept of specialty dating apps even works, and why Peter Thiel is so interested in investing money into a concept that's already been done a dozen+ times in the last decade. We dig up some weird stuff.

If anyone has access to the app itself, please send us an invite. We'd like to test some things.

We strongly urge our listeners to support the work of Planned Parenthood by donating here. For the indefinite future all Patreon donations will go to them, NARAL, or other orgs doing good work across the nation.

  • Episode 78: The Guy Siblings Critique Anti-Abortion Arguments pt2

Boy, the hits keep coming and they don't stop coming, huh? Same day we recorded this the Arizona courts decided that outlawing all abortions was totally fine and good; kind of a kick in the pants, but hey, not totally unexpected.

On part two of analyzing "A Young Gay Femme Leftist Hands You a Prolife Zine" we discuss the various abortion initiatives that made it to the ballot in multiple states before jumping back into the text. (for those just tuning in, we're discussing anti-abortion arguments and using one of the weirdest ant-abortion pamphlets we've ever seen as a template to work thru.) This time we get through a little more than 10% of this "zine," discussing a weird mishmash of philosophy that tries to use the trolley problem to explain why abortion is bad while also making SmashMouth references, the argument that patriarchy is why women feel the need to get abortions, and the somewhat nonsensical claim that pregnancy isn't a danger to women. If you happen to have a vagina, this is a perfect episode to open the spookiest month of the year, both due to the fact that some people apparently believe this stuff and due to some graphic descriptions of very normal results of even uncomplicated pregnancies.  Woot woot.

We strongly urge our listeners to support the work of Planned Parenthood by donating here. For the indefinite future all Patreon donations will go to them, NARAL, or other orgs doing good work across the nation.

  • Episode 77: Talking Politics with Rep. Melody Hernandez

We're happy to be joined this week by Arizona State Representative Melody Hernandez, who's running for re-election this November. We chat about her stance on the recent upholding of the (near) total abortion ban in AZ, the bills she's co-sponsored on abortion, sex-ed, and sexual violence prevention in the House,  and some of the trials and tribulations she's experienced dating as a public servant.

For first-time listeners, this podcast focuses on changes in relationships and dating trends amongst GenZ and Millenials. While a lot of our content covers dating media, we find that discussions about women's rights, the economy, and US politics help explain while many people might be reticent to date or pursue serious relationships.

We strongly urge our listeners to support the work of Planned Parenthood by donating here. For the indefinite future all Patreon donations will go to them, NARAL, or other orgs doing good work across the nation.

  • Episode 76: Catchup and Guys 3 + Abortion Rights Talk

Well our last official catchup episode was back in October of 2021, so we felt we could fill some time and let our listeners know what we've been up to. The ego on some people, right? We discuss what's new in our lives/relationships, some takeaways from recent travel, what's keeping us sane in these dark times, and some information on both the recently proposed 15 week abortion ban and a new push for tradcore lifestyles. More specifically, we dig into why the "compromise" positions being promoted by conservatives as more lenient than European law don't really pass the smell test.

Here's a link to the video we discuss.

Find the article comparing American and European abortion restrictions here.

  • Episode 74: Difficult Relationship Etiquette 4 (feat. Lauren Pauls)

Naomi went out of town again so Joel and Lauren were left to "Risky Business" up the podcast, fun dance scenes, horrible meal choices, and all. This week we're back once more to discuss partners who get mad at their SOs for not making enough food, loveable pranksters who pretend to throw their girlfriend off the Grand Canyon, mean old boyfriends who don't prioritize ER visits for their girlfriends, people who feed their dogs better than their beaus, and so much more. As always, we discuss who in the situation is probably on the moral side and general tips we can take away from the questions regarding how to be a better partner.

We strongly urge our listeners to support the work of Planned Parenthood by donating here. For the indefinite future all Patreon donations will go to them, NARAL, or other orgs doing good work across the nation.

  • Episode 73: The Guy Siblings Critique Anti-Abortion Arguments pt1

Boy, that's a mouthful. Joel and Naomi found a very strange prolife zine online and want to discuss how it attempts to bridge the gap between progressive and prolife positions. We more generally want to discuss prolife rhetoric and thought this would be a good opportunity to unpack some of their main arguments. Unfortunately, this thing is really really long; we literally get through 3 pages of a 114 page document in this first part. We have no idea how long this will take to get through and we honestly might just give up halfway, but we’ll try to earnestly deliver some counter-arguments to what’s being presented to help our listeners better understand how to engage with this stuff in their personal lives.

Unrelated, but since this is pretty heady subject material, Joel decided to torment his sister again with another round of “Pundamental Romance,” the only pun-based romantic media podcast gameshow. We can’t guarantee we’ll do a round every time we discuss serious topics, but boy, it takes the edge off this episode.

  • Episode 70: Book Club - Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus review pt2

And we're back with part 2 of John Grey's guide to gender essentialism, a horribly substantiated and poorly-reasoned guide to communicating with and loving your partner better.  Sure, we make fun of it, but we also realize it's had and will continue to have more of an impact on the world than anything we'll ever produce, so maybe we're just jealous?

In this part we discuss some actually reasonable advice to how different sexes use language differently, some weirdly sexist advice regarding how men and women deal with stress, and some more horrible advice about people never being able to change their partner. We wrap it up by talking about research that's been done since the book was first published that undermines the whole gosh-darn premise and a quick prayer that John Grey never again picks up a pen to write.

We strongly urge our listeners to support the work of Planned Parenthood by donating here. Patreon donations are sweet, but there are more important causes to support. Go check out what is going on in the world and support those with a uterus.
