I'm back with a new episode discussing the economic impact of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The decision quite literally makes no cents, and the women of this country have truly lost all bodily autonomy. In this episode, I will synthesize information from a bunch of articles and papers I read, to relay the adverse economic effects this decision has on women across the United States. Listen to learn more about the Turnaway Study, what the workforce will look like now, and more.
You should give these articles a read:

It’s been a few weeks since the last episode, but I am excited to keep the conversation about the gender pay gap going and transition into talking about women in the workforce and how leadership and job progression impact the pay gap and a woman’s ability to advance her career. Today’s guest, Dr. Linda Carli, is a senior lecturer emerita in psychology at Wellesley College. Her research focuses on women’s influence and leadership and she is the co-author of Through the Labyrinth: The Truth About How Women Become Leaders, which was published in conjunction with the Center for Public Leadership of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. I am super excited to talk to her about women’s leadership and how it is related to the pay gap, women’s work participation, and family dynamics.

Today we're going to be talking about the gender pay gap! Our guest lives all the way across the Atlantic ocean in Bristol, England. Her name is Dr. Zara Nanu and she is a powerful advocate for workplace gender equality and fair pay. Zara's career, interestingly enough, started combating human trafficking and campaigning on women's rights issues. Now Zara is focused on working on how technology can help cultivate an inclusive workplace; in 2015, Zara founded Gapsquare, which utilizes data science and artificial intelligence to close wage gaps, achieve equal pay and embrace diverse talent ecosystems in the workplace. Zara speaks at various international events. She's spoken to the OECD and also gave a TEDx Talk at the University of Bristol.

Let's keep the conversation going from last week's interview with Dr. Carlo Salerno to this weekend's episode! We will dive a little deeper into the antitrust lawsuit accusing elite colleges of colluding to limit financial aid. I can't wait to learn about the effects of anti-competitive behavior on the economy and how income-driven repayment could be a solution to the student loan debt crisis. I’m super excited to speak with Dr. Constantine Yannelis, who is an Assistant Professor of Finance and FMC faculty scholar at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His research focuses on household finance, public finance, human capital, and student loans. Yannelis’ academic research has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Economist, Bloomberg, Forbes, and more.

Earlier this month, several elite colleges and universities were accused of colluding to reduce the financial aid they gave to students through anti-competitive behavior. As soon as I heard about this alleged conspiracy, I wanted to learn more about the actual financial system of higher education and the student loan debt crisis. This is part one of two episodes where I hope to learn more about these topics. I am super excited to talk with Dr. Carlo Salerno, an education economist. Carlo has had over 20 years of experience studying the economics of higher education. He's done research for the federal government and started his own education analytics company. Currently, Carlo serves as the vice president of research at CampusLogic.

We are definitely in store for fun and even more so inspirational episode today. I am so excited to introduce you all to Ian Brock 17 year old from Chicago. And co-founder of Dream Hustle Code and New Nerd. Ian is the coolest teenager I've met.
Ian is a computer science activist, public speaker, rookie coder, and soon to be author. And for the past seven years, Ian's been on a mission to inspire confidence in black and brown kids while empowering them to believe that they can be creators of new cutting edge technology. He is currently writing a book, hence the soon to be author and it's for kids that led to extraordinary interviews with people like Oprah Winfrey, Steve Harvey, and Will Packer just to name a few.
Most recently, Ian was featured in McDonald's black and positively golden mentors commercial campaign. And this included figures like Big Sean and NASCAR's Bubba Wallace. He's also appeared on so many different media channels that they're just too much to name right now. And it would have taken the whole episode.
And he's also spoken at various events about technology and personal development from Silicon valley to sweet home Chicago. Ian is the recipient of the 2020 Rainbow Push Excel stem award. He is one of Chicago's innovations, 25 under 25 rising Chicago entrepreneurs and technologists in 2020, and one of 200 people under 40 in an Encyclopedic Britannica's "Shapers of the Future". And on top of all, this is a finalist for time and Nickelodeon's 2020 Kid of the Year award. That is a whole lot of accomplishments. But even with all of these accomplishments, Ian is a super down to earth. Loves normal things like playing basketball and listening to music and reading books.
So I'm just super excited to get to know him more and learn more about how he became the entrepreneur that he is today. So I hope you enjoyed the interview.
