Superstitions are deeply ingrained in human culture, often tied to beliefs about luck, fortune and rituals to either ward off bad luck or attract good luck. Many superstitions stem from centuries-old traditions and are passed down through generations without clear understanding of their origins.
People might follow certain rituals, like knocking on wood, crossing their fingers, or avoiding walking under ladders, often as a way to feel in control of uncertainty. These actions, though seemingly irrational, can provide comfort in unpredictable situations.
Superstitions often come from religious or cultural beliefs, where certain actions or objects were believed to influence events or prevent misfortune. For example, the fear of breaking a mirror (believed to bring seven years bad luck) may originate from ancient beliefs that mirrors reflect not only our physical appearance, but our souls.
Are you curious about the origins of a specific superstition? Tune in and find out.

Back in the 1800's, the United States saw an uptick of its population moving from the east coast to the west coast during the gold rush days. With the expansion of the west, came with it the outlaws. The law was spread thin and the lawless was forever growing far and wide. Many of the jails and prison systems were very rudimentary, but very harsh treatment to those imprisoned within the wall. Those who were tasked with being a prison guard at one of these prisons did so with little pay and little to no training. During this episode we will be exploring with our very own Renee Slider discussing her own haunting experiences during her time as a staff member and tour guide at the Wyoming Territorial State Prison in Laramie Wyoming. We hope you enjoy listening to these next two episodes as much as we liked to talk about them. Wait no further, it's time to listen along with Wicked Darkness with S.E.W.P.I.T.

Who could ever imagine in the quiet town of Gettysburg Pennsylvanian, history would be made in one of the bloodiest battles on US soil. Between 1861 and 1865, the United States was torn in half mainly because of slavery. Those states and their constituents who were for it and those who were against it. The result was civil war between the northern states and southern, brother against brother, friends against friends. In 1863, the citizens of Gettysburg found themselves seeing the battle with their own eyes and experiencing the events firsthand. The horror of that battle seeped into the soil of the very ground they walked on. So many lives lost, so much pain and unknowing. Boys cut down well before they were to be able to experience life. A single civilian woman just twenty years old, trying to do her part to bring comfort and a piece of home to men she had never met became victim to the bloody war surrounding her and her family. The tragic end for so many came fast, that it is no wonder the town of Gettysburg is now haunted with the moments of the tragic war over a 160 years ago. Listen along as we discuss some of the locations that still bear witness to the horrific events that took place all those years ago.
