In this final episode of the first season, Matt sits down with Henry Staelens – recently appointed CEO of British Ice Hockey and former CEO of Forest Green Rovers, named by FIFA as the world’s greenest football club. 

Henry’s role at the New Lawn was to turn the club’s higher purpose around sustainability and green energy into organisational performance on and off the pitch, which he achieved with distinction.

Discussing his key learnings from this experience, Henry also tells the story of an incredible journey that led him from unemployment at 16 to becoming the youngest CEO in the English Football League by the age of 30, and outlines his vision of a golden future for British ice hockey.

Matt chats with Mark Turner, a former Lieutenant and Seaman Officer in the Royal Navy who partnered with Dame Ellen Macarthur to mastermind her record exploits at sea, before taking their successful partnership onto land and building a portfolio of purpose-driven international sporting competitions and charity events. 

Mark’s experiences in both sport and business have demonstrated how engaging with higher purpose, either consciously or subconsciously, can create optimal outcomes for all stakeholders.

On an individual level, he also offers a practical guide for athletes wanting to use their platform to inspire others – creating emotional currency through effective and authentic storytelling.
