The Salem Witch Trials were one of Colonial America's most notorious cases of mass hysteria. All in all, more than two hundred people were accused between February 1692 and May 1693. Thirty were found guilty and nineteen were executed. The trials have been described as a vivid cautionary tale about the dangers of isolationism, religious extremism, false accusations, and lapses in due process.

Tonight’s story is about a real-life witch hunter, Matthew Hopkins, who exploited the fears and hysteria that surrounded the occult during the 17th century in England to satisfy his own perverse views on so-called sinners. Self-proclaimed "WitchFinder General," he and his associates were responsible for more people being hanged for witchcraft than had been in all the previous 100 years combined. #WikiSleep #WitchHunter #Sleep #ScaryStory #Witchcraft #MentalHealth

Zombies as we know them have their origins in Haitian and African folklore, where they were believed to be reanimated corpses controlled by sorcerers. The concept evolved in pop culture through the 20th century, gaining prominence in George A. Romero's 1968 film "Night of the Living Dead." Romero's movie marked the shift from voodoo-based zombies to the modern, flesh-eating and contagious kind undead. Since then, zombies have become a staple in horror literature, films and video games, representing societal fears and anxieties, while also providing a platform for creative exploration of the undead theme...

Born in 1883 in Prague, Franz Kafka was a Bohemian novelist and short-story writer, widely regarded as one of the major figures of 20th-century literature. His work fuses elements of realism and the fantastic and typically features isolated protagonists facing bizarre or surrealistic predicaments and incomprehensible socio-bureaucratic powers. He never married, yet had a tortured relationship with sex and was womanizer who was engaged several times. Although the term "Kafka-esque" has entered the English language to describe situations like those found in his writing, he was virtually unknown during his lifetime.

An illiterate farm girl who claimed the voice of God instructed her to take charge of her country's army and lead it to victory, Joan of Arc was able to convince the as-yet crowned Charles VII to let her do just that. What's more astounding is that once in charge, her swift victories led to a brief truce in the 100 Years War and to the consecration of King Charles. Her actions brought her family into nobility, but her meteoric rise was cut short as swiftly as it began...
