The construction of AI data centers is exploding across the United States, but many communities are rejecting them. In addition to questions about environmental impacts, many residents near data centers are experiencing terrible noise and large increases in their power bills. There has also been very little discussion of what these centers actually do to benefit Americans while increasing the likelihood of job layoffs and the capacity for government surveillance.
