Whatever you don't have but think you need before you can get started on your project or business idea, while it might be nice to have or might make things easier, it doesn't prevent you from getting started. Often, we just have to look at the hard work we're avoiding and do that work.
The commitment to doing the work you CAN do is more important than having all the tools right now. Life has a funny way of showing up with what we WILL need when we've taken the first step.

Too often, we discount how hard it is to start something new. When you're venturing off to start a business, the days can be incredibly dark. So much so where you'll wonder if all your efforts are futile.
For those among us who really believe we have the better solution currently available to our market, a better service or product, and are passionate about it to the point where we'll go through hell to see it through, quitting just isn't an option.

Whether it's 2 hours per day or 20 minutes, each of us has enough time to work DAILY on things that bring us closer to our dreams. It doesn't matter if you have kids, a spouse, a job, or many other responsibilities, you have the time. You'll have to fight to protect your time, but it's there.
Turn off the game, lock the door, put down Instagram. If you sit and chill on the couch every night eating popcorn and drinking soda, it's a lot easier to do that again the next day also. Shake yourself out of complacency and go to work.

If you're really passionate about your business, you'll spend the majority of your time building an audience *around* your business. When you've built an audience (and not just a bunch of Likes), you're shepherding a community that's looking to you to lead the way.
What you do with that attention is up to you. Maybe you use it to sell your products. Maybe you use it to book more shows. Just like electricity and fire, you can use it for good or for bad. That's not the point. What matters is that you're using social media mindfully -- fully aware that you're developing a narrative around yourself. So when you're constantly posting about frivolous things that don't matter like Real Housewives of Atlanta or who dropped 30 on the Warriors last night, people will take you a lot less serious.
If you're building a business, it's time to get serious.

I witness barbers turn down $50-$60 an hour regularly. Breaks my heart.
The shop is a social place, but its a business first. If people aren't making money, then there's ultimately no shop to go to. Too many barbers forget that they're in the *service* business and make their customers feel like its a privilege to be in their chair. They may not say it, but they show it by behaviors that don't express appreciation. And if you're trying to build your business, your actions should match it -- use the tools you have to get butts in your chair instead of wasting precious time liking pics on IG.
I'm really good at cutting my own hair, so hate me if you want for this rant. I just hope this video helps you grow your client roster and build a reputation for valuing peoples time AND for giving dope fades.

You might have a lot of great ideas, but when people have a job for you, they usually have a specific vision in mind. Don't lose the opportunity to close the deal by trying to sell them something they didn't ask for. Make the deal, then educate them. At the end of the day, you have to give them what they want - even when you know there's a better way.

You should never ask anyone what they think of your business idea. What made them arbiter of all business ideas? Especially, never go to someone who wouldn't ultimately be your customer. If you're selling baked goods, and I swore off sugar, it wouldn't make sense to ask me if opening a shop is a good idea, right? How would I know? If I listened to Rap and R&B religiously, why would you ask me what I think of your Jazz album?
Want to know what a better question is and to whom? To your ideal customer, share with them your product or prototype - then see if you can get their buy-in or support. Nobody else's feedback will help you.

Let's be clear, this podcast isn't for everybody. This isn't for people who want to talk about quitting their jobs and starting a business but aren't willing to do the hard work that's required to make it a reality.
If you want to kick your feet up this weekend, skip this episode and go play frisbee. But if you're sick and tired of your 9-5, your paycheck that doesn't match your potential, or the constraints put on your creativity by your job, then you can't wait for the weekend. Not so you can sit back, but so you can go all-in on your dream without the distractions of the job.
Let's get to work. Even on the weekends.

Knowing how much you're worth per hour helps you determine what you need to stop doing. It's possible that cutting the grass is a terrible way to spend your time. It's possible that you need to outsource your household chores.
If you know how much every hour of your day is worth in dollars (recognizing that you only have 24 of them), then you know that things that fall below that dollar value may need to be outsourced to someone else. Maybe you need to hire a landscaper or a housekeeper.
When you focus on the doing the work that helps you get to where you want to go and stopping ending work below your pay grade, you honor you time-investment.

So many of us don't take advantage of the tools and resources around us. We take them for granted -- maybe because we don't think they're important.
I want you to take an honest look around and see at how you're ruining your chances of success by spending money on things that don't help you reach your goals and by wasting time on things that don't get you closer to your dreams.
You only have ONE life. Stop living like this is a rehearsal.
