A State Department report reviewing human rights around the world has pulled its punches on Israel, reaffirming Donald Trump's support for Israeli claims on the Golan Heights and Jerusalem, both at odds with international law. The report makes little mention of Israeli settlements in the occupied territories, though does use the term "occupied" in a slight break with the Trump administration.

Iran and the US are set for indirect talks in Vienna this week, where they will discuss ways to revive the defunct 2015 nuclear deal, but Iranian officials have voiced heavy skepticism, insisting Washington return to the agreement and lift sanctions immediately. 

The US withdrawal from Afghanistan on May 1 has effectively been called off, as Biden requests a six-month extension to the American military occupation. Kyle and Will explain how that could foretell a much longer presence.
