When Ken Gibson from The Mission to End Leprosy called our office two years ago we honestly thought it was a joke.
Sadly this ancient disease, is still isolating people in India, Brazil and Africa, but it can be cured by Ken and his team with the will and the right support.
St.Stephens Green, Leopardstown and Galloping Green in Dublin, Lovers Walk and Castlemartyr in Cork are just some of Ireland's history with leprosy.
In this episode, Ken Gibson, CEO of The Mission to End Leprosy shares some of his stories about some of the very special people he has met with the condition and how it can be cured.

As a young girl she stopped chickens from being killed on the farm, as a nurse she stood up for patients and patient care and as a community worker she stood up for the traveller community in Limerick and migrants in Dublin.
From all of these roles, Siobhan learnt how to protest and fight for change, which led to her founding Uplift four years ago.

A young couple got married and had their wedding reception at the Imperial Hotel in Cork and travelled onto Shannon Airport to wave goodbye to their families and emigrate to New York.
They left New York, six years later on Valentines Day, 1963 on a ship to return home, after a fantastic adventure in the "City that never sleeps".
Working and living in New York, drafted into the American Army, the music of Paul Anka, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis and the Rat Pack, Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, playing soccer with the Newark Portuguese and a new young President called John F.Kennedy.

Greg chats with the now retired Professor, Michael Mortell who was the President of University College Cork from 1989 to 1999.
His father died when he was just five years of age and Michael found that he had to dig a little deeper, and try a little harder to succeed in every walk of life.
He succeeded on the hurling field and he succeeded in academia earning scholarships to UCC and the much revered Caltech in Los Angeles.
In Michael's time, he relentlessly drove UCC forward, raising the standards, the facilities and the profile of the university in Ireland and internationally.
When he walked into UCC as a student in 1958 it was effectively a large school and when he left it was the equivalent of a large town!

Sister Bride shares her fascinating story, joining The Presentation Sisters, a closed order when she was just 17.

Professor Patrick O'Shea, President of University College Cork initially started off at the college studying physics on a scholarship.
After an illustrious career in the United States at the University of Maryland spanning 30 years he returned to UCC nearly two years ago to take up the role of President.
