Despite the size of some bamboo varieties bamboo is classified under the grass family. Bamboo is among the fastest growing plants, some types growing as fast as 3ft in a single day. Bamboo thrives mostly in Asia and tropical climates but has become an invasive species in the US partially due to its speed of growth.
