  • Phoenix Calida Praises Comrade Ravelry
Ravelry, a Popular Knitting Site, Bans Pro-Trump Content
The move set off a firestorm in the knitting world. “If it’s one way, then it should be both ways,” one knitter said. Others thought it was necessary: “In a perfect world, we would just craft.”
Traditionally, politics are not for the dinner table. Or the crafting circle.
But on Sunday, Ravelry, a popular website for knitters and crocheters, took a political stand when it announced that it was banning content that supports President Trump, in what it said was a resolution against white supremacy.

  • Harvard Pulls Pro-Gun Parkland Survivor Kyle Kashuv’s Admission Over Racial Slur
Harvard University has revoked the admission of conservative pundit and Parkland shooting survivor Kyle Kashuv over racial slurs he made in messages that surfaced online last month.
Kashuv, who rose to fame on the right as a vocally pro-gun survivor of the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, was set to attend Harvard in 2020 after taking a gap-year off from school. But Kashuv announced Monday in a lengthy Twitter thread criticizing Harvard that the university pulled his admission in a letter citing concerns about “maturity and moral character,” an apparent reference to the racial slurs.
Kashuv said on Monday that he doesn’t know where he will go to college now, adding that he turned down “huge scholarships” at other schools in favor of the Ivy League titan.
    Harvard University declined to comment.

  • Mich. Prosecutors Drop Charges In Flint Water Investigation, But Promise New Pro
Three years after lead was detected in the drinking water of Flint, Mich., state prosecutors say they are dropping all criminal charges filed against a group of eight government officials implicated in the scandal, in favor of launching a new expanded investigation.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the dramatic shift in a statement Thursday.
“I want to remind the people of Flint that justice delayed is not always justice denied and a fearless and dedicated team of career prosecutors and investigators are hard at work to ensure those who harmed you are held accountable,” Nessel said.
In a separate statement, Solicitor General Fadwa Hammoud and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, who assumed control of the investigation in January, said they had “immediate and grave concerns” about the investigation conducted by the previous team of prosecutors. They concluded that “contrary to accepted standards of criminal investigation and prosecution, all available evidence was not pursued.”

  • US to label nuclear waste as less dangerous to quicken cleanup
US to label nuclear waste as less dangerous to quicken cleanup
Energy department says labeling some waste as low-level at sites in Washington state, Idaho and South Carolina will save $40bn.
The US government plans to reclassify some of the nation’s most dangerous radioactive waste to lower its threat level, outraging critics who say the move would make it cheaper and easier to walk away from cleaning up nuclear weapons production sites in Washington state, Idaho and South Carolina.
The Department of Energy said on Wednesday that labeling some high-level waste as low level will save $40bn in cleanup costs across the nation’s entire nuclear weapons complex. The material that has languished for decades in the three states would be taken to low-level disposal facilities in Utah or Texas, the agency said.
