North Carolina sheriff's deputy is accused of planting drugs in someone’s vehicle as part of a revenge plot.
Anson County Sheriff Landric Reid said he's grateful his detectives were able to uncover the alleged scheme before anyone's life was ruined.
"This was a revenge case where he planted drugs in this male's car,” Reid said. “This male was dating his ex, and he wanted revenge, and he wanted his ex-girlfriend back."
Reid said that in March of 2018, former Deputy David Scott Burroughs bought drugs, such as heroin and meth, and planted them in the car.

Reid said Burroughs told his fellow officers about tips from the public that indicated the man was dealing out of his car.
“This started on a Sunday afternoon,” Reid said.
“By Wednesday, when we made the stop, drugs were at the same place in the car. That was a red flag because anyone selling drugs wouldn't have them Sunday to Wednesday in the same place."

Updated April 12 at 6:34 PM
EAU CLAIRE, WI (Gray News) - A mother and her son are in custody after causing a ruckus at a Walmart Wednesday night, police said. Their dog chipped in, too.
The Eau Claire Police Department identified 46-year-old Lisa Smith and her 25-year-old son Benny Vann as the suspects. Investigators said the dog is named Bo.
Responding officers said they found Smith yelling in the doorway trying to summon Bo.
Smith allegedly brought Bo into the store without a leash, so he easily ditched his owner and started running up to unsuspecting customers.

Louisiana Gov. Bel Edwards on Thursday described the three fires that destroyed predominantly black churches in rural Louisiana as an “evil act” committed by the son of a sheriff’s deputy.
Holden Matthews was arrested Wednesday on three counts of simple arson for fires that on destroyed the churches in St. Landry Parish over  ten days. The fires were set on March 26, April 2, and April 4, and destroyed St. Mary Baptist Church, Greater Union Baptist Church, and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, respectively. Matthews, 21, was booked into jail Wednesday evening.
Louisiana State Fire Marshal “Butch” Browning, at a Thursday morning press conference, called the fires “an attack on our God and our religion.”
“In my career, I have never seen such a spiritual mission that has come home so quickly,” said Browning, who noted that Matthews’ arrest was quick in part because “we felt that other crimes were imminent.”

AJC at the Gold Dome: State Budget
By Maya T. Prabhu, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In a first, Georgia lawmakers set aside money in next year’s $27.5 billion state budget to provide free menstrual pads and tampons to low-income women and girls.
Lawmakers allocated $1.5 million in the 2020 budget, which begins July 1, that will go to schools and community centers in low-income areas across the state.
House Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jonesnegotiated with budget writers to include the money in the spending plan after she moved earlier this year to sideline a proposal to lift the state’s 4 percent tax on menstrual products.
Jones, a Milton Republican, said allocating $1 million to the Georgia Department of Education more directly addresses the need of young girls missing school because their family doesn’t have the money to purchase menstrual pads or tampons.

  • Bill O’Reilly Says Joe Biden is ‘Under Attack’ because He’s White and Capitalist

Bill O’Reilly has been working as a NewsmaxTV host since he was canned from Fox News after details of millions of dollars in settlements for sexual harassment allegations against him came to light, and yesterday he shared his empathy with former Vice President Joe Biden, who has been accused of behaving inappropriately toward women.
In a clip of a NewsmaxTV broadcast uploaded to YouTube yesterday, O’Reilly said that Biden posed “the stiffest challenge” to President Trump in the road ahead to the 2020 election because Biden has the most name recognition among the general public compared to other Democrats eyeing the party nomination. Biden has not formally announced a 2020 bid, but The Wall Street Journal reports that Biden has been lining up major donors so that he can quickly raise millions of dollars for an impending campaign.
In the last week, two women have alleged that Biden touched them inappropriately. On Tuesday, The New York Times reported that two more women made additional allegations of inappropriate behavior toward them by Biden. Criticisms of Biden’s behavior toward women and the nickname “Creepy Uncle Joe” have circulated for years, but the recently reported allegations have inspired many on the progressive left to criticize and question the former vice president. To critics voicing concerns, Biden’s behavior demonstrates a fundamental disconnect between the potential candidate and modern conversations about how men in power should behave toward women.
