  • WIIM Radio: Week of October 18th

We've got another episode of WIIM Radio to throw at your ears this week as me, Jeff, and Kyle ran a fairly tight show with Michelle adding in a great prospects report. Here's the rundown:

The Week that Was - The Wings beat Tampa and then lost two games in a row. We go game-by-game on breakdowns and talk about what's going on, from the very good performance on Tuesday to the weekend shitshow that was.Overall Impressions - Detroit is getting badly outshot, both in not creating enough and not preventing enough, but we're only five games into the Jeff Blashill era. What's leading to the problems and how worried are we at this point? How would we change up the roster?Prospects Report - Michelle runs us through the Griffins' struggles, the players, and the kids playing elsewhere in this week's Prospects Report.Reader Questions - We frankly take way too much time answering things, meaning you all are very good at asking questions we don't think to answer early. Good job, you all.Looking at the Week Ahead - Heading into Western Canada, we'll tell you what's going to happen.Outro - I tell the story of an awful sandwich.
A gentle reminder that WIIM Radio is rated for adults, so if you're teaching kindergarten, please play our podcast on full volume in front of your class. Kids should know about the Red Wings as soon as possible.

  • WIIM Radio: October 12

We're back with another episode of WIIM Radio now that the season has started. We have me, Jeff, Graham, and Joe talking Red Wings hockey and Michelle dropping the prospects report for us. Here's a rundown of how things played out:

Dylan Larkin! - Jeff didn't want to wait to talk about the wunderkid so we led off espousing what makes the guy so special to the Wings and why we're all sporting massive Dylan Larkin banners.Setting the Roster - Hopefully the second-to-last time we ever have to speak objectively about Dan Clearys use to the Red Wings on ice, we go over what it means for him to have been waived and refuse assignment, as well as some other rosterbatory discussion. The Wings started off 2-0! - Breaking down the Toronto and Carolina games, we try to make excuses for why winning hockey games in which you get badly outshot isn't a portent of doom in early October and also congratulate some people on doing a good job.Prospects Report - The Griffins started off 0-2 in California, but Michelle gives us a really good rundown on why that's not a bad thing, as well as player-by-player evals for the BAM line. Then she goes on to discuss how our non-AHL prospects are doing, including some really promising stuff about the future of Detroit's blue line.Reader Questions - Did you ask a good question? We probably answered it! We were almost certainly polite about that too!
As always, WIIM Radio is rated R. Sailors don't think it's a big deal and they seem like pretty cool people.

  • Listen to WIIM Radio: Season Opening Edition

Welcome to a new episode of WIIM Radio! We've got Kyle, Graham, Joseph and me along with another fantastic prospects report from Michelle.

Reminder: WIIM Radio is rated for adults. Please don't let babies listen to it if they've already been born. If unborn, please play this episode through a speaker played directly into the womb. This helps their development.
At any rate, here's a rundown of topics we went over:

The goaltending battle - Who won the right to start on opening night? Does it even matter who takes the first game?Building out from the blue line - Injuries in camp have changed things up, but how is the Wings' defense going to look this year? Can Quincey-Green cut it until DK gets back? Will Kronwall-Ericsson be able to handle tough duties? What's going on with the third pair?DYYYYYLLLLLLLAAAANNNNNNN LAAAAAAARRRRRKKKKIINNNNNNNN - Hey, have you heard of this kid? He's good huh? How good is he? What makes him special compared to the other well-performing prospects? What about the other forwards?Prospects report - Michelle gives us the scoop on the kids outside the Wings roster right now.Reader questions - This is where we circle back to your questions to make sure we haven't missed anything in a segment that includes Graham saying something mean about Andersson and Tangradi.

  • WIIM Radio: Training Camp Edition

Welcome back to another episode of WIIM Radio. For this show, we had Michelle, Joseph, Kyle, and me on to discuss the latest happenings with the Red Wings just prior to the preseason games starting. We had lots to cover, so let's go over the rundown.

The Prospects Tourney - Michelle was in Traverse City for this event and gives us her rundown of who looked impressive and who looked... well, less impressive in the Wings' 2nd place tournament showing.
Main Wings Camp - In this segment, we went pretty heavily over the system adjustments, the defensive logjam, the plan for the forwards, and the observations of Kyle and Michelle from camp, as they both attended.
The Blackhawks' Awful Decision - I wanted to clarify some things on what a bad idea it was for the Blackhawks to do pretty much everything they did in bringing Patrick Kane to camp (as a note, if you don't feel comfortable listening to this segment, we have a notice in the episode when we're going to start talking about it. You can skip from 1:03:35 to 1:09:00 and miss the whole thing if you'd like).
Prospects Report - Not all of our prospects were in Traverse City in the last two weeks. Michelle gives us the rundown of the kids playing elsewhere right now.
Reader Questions - You asked about 20 questions and we answered most of them. This is always one of my favorite segments.
As a reminder, we do use adult language on WIIM radio (though not as much as last week). Please be aware of that before letting toddlers listen.

  • WIIM Radio: Early September Edition

Welcome to the first September episode of WIIM Radio! For this recording, we had Kyle, Joseph, Graham, and I on with a special appearance from Michelle to talk about the prospects. We're this close to meaningful hockey again and that can only mean one thing, talking about the last two weeks!

Here's a rundown of what we had.

Johan Franzen's status update since the last time we recorded was not promising.Dan Cleary went from rumor to actual signing and we still hate that move.Henrik Zetterberg diplomatically dropped the hammer on Babcock in a summer full of quotes from Wings players about the bygone coach.Dylan Larkin is going to be really good y'all. Get on board.Reader questions!

  • WIIM Radio: End of August Edition

We had a relatively quiet two weeks in Red Wings land since our last episode, but we got dropped a big ol' dumb bomb a few hours before recording, so we sure had plenty to talk about in this episode. I was joined by Jeff, Kyle, and Joe for the main show and of course Michelle provided us with another excellent prospects report.

Here's how it all went down:

The Dan Cleary rumor that won't die.The Power of Love Zetterberg.Johan Franzen and the incredible humanizing effect of his Instagram account.Digger Rankings!Prospect Report.Western Conference Preview (in which we all agree Colorado still sucks a bunch).Reader Questions

  • WIIM Radio: Early August Edition

Welcome to another edition of WIIM Radio. We've got a bit of a full house on this one with me, Kyle, Graham, Michelle, and Joe. In this episode, we've got a bunch to cover. Here's what we ended up taking on:

The Scraps of Red Wings News - Ericsson, Sheahan, and Abdelkader stories out within the last two weeks gave us plenty to talk about where guys fit, what their expectations are, and what we'd be comfortable with contract-wise.The NHL/MLBAM Deal - The $1.2B streaming/website deal that the NHL entered into with MLB's streaming providers should make things better for the fans... should. We also get into the financials of the deal a bit.The Legal Issues - The Kane stuff is hard to talk about. The Mike Richards stuff not so much.Western Conference Preview - maybe next timeProspects Report - Michelle updates us on the Traverse City tournament coming up and previews the forwards expected to be playing.Reader Questions - Find out whether I would eat an entire bag of avocados to make the hockey season start right now.

When we last left you, Gustavy Nyquist had just been signed to a four-year deal and we were going over the free agency frenzy from early July. Now that the dust has settled a bit and the Wings have worked through all their RFA signings, we've got another episode for you.

The Pulkkinen and Jurco Signings - What they mean for the club and how the team stands right now.Rosterbation - What needs to change before the NHL season kicks off to get the Wings ready to win and cap compliant.Atlantic Division & Eastern Conference Preview - We'll take a really early look at how things are stacking up for the division and conference and try to figure out where the Wings stand.Prospects Report - Michelle will join in to talk prospects and get us primed up for the Prospects Tournament coming up.Expansion/Realignment Talk - The NHL got two bids and could see even more movement. What could it mean for the unbalanced conferences if the league adds a team from Quebec?Reader Questions - We'll go over the questions you leave for us and answer the ones we haven't accidentally already covered on our way through the previous topics.

  • WIIM Radio: Mid-July Free Agency Edition

It's been two weeks since we've been on the air talking about the draft and free agency. We're really getting into the summer season, but that doesn't mean we don't have things to discuss. Tonight at 10pm EST, you'll be able to hop onto our Blogtalk Radio page and listen to a brand new episode of WIIM Radio live.
    1. Free Agency Frenzy!
    Winners and losers
    Were the Red Wings winners?
    Mike Green chatter
    Brad Richards chatter
How can Ken Holland make this work assuming everyone is healthy?
    2. Development Camp
    Who made an impression?
As of now, who are the Red Wings top prospects? Minus Dylan Larkin since he is an NHL forward
    3. 2015-2016 Regular Season
Will there be any prospects making the team? If so, who?
    Decoding the "logjam"
What are the expectations of Jeff Blashill as his first season as a head coach in the NHL?
    4. Gustav Nyquist
He got a four-year extension worth $19 million.
How good is this contract? Ken Holland low-key just signed a back-to-back 20 goal scorer for under $5 million per year.
Is it sage to say that Nyquist is now to be considered a "core" player?
    5. Defense
What needs to be done to make this a contending defense?
Obviously we acquired Mike Green, who instantly makes us better.. But what about the top-pair? Kronwall and Ericsson can't remain a thing. Kronwall is getting older, and Ericsson is real bad. How do we fix this?
    6. News from around the league, and current events
If you're unable to listen in live, don't worry, we'll have episode audio available to download or stream almost immediately after the show's end either embedded right hear or searchable on iTunes.
