Wings with Friends

I caught up with Brian once again over wings from ATL wings on Roosevelt Row. It's been two years since he shared his story with us on the podcast and I wanted to check in on his journey. Brian is busy going back to school, getting involved in politics and improving his community and the state of Arizona. We get serious, we get political, we get real but we keep it authentic. Brian is passionate about mental health and talks about possible future paths. Somehow Justin Black comes up again in this episode- congrats on your new baby Justin!

I had a wonderful time performing at the Comedy Catch in Chattanooga, Tenessee- one of the longest running family-owned clubs in the county! Chattanooga is known for their fried chicken so Danielle and I went to Champy's Famous Fried Chicken. We had delicious sweet-heat smoked wings but the real star of the meal was their golden friend chicken! Danielle and I talked about the business of comedy, networking and all the great people we meet along the way (stay till the end for a bonus shout-out segment!) She also explains how she and her husband unwittingly became the poster couple for weddings at The Strat in Las Vegas.

We are back and we are all about the wings! Bubba McComb and I enjoyed maybe some of the best wings ever at Crazy Mikes in Goodyear (they also have a Glendale location). We had garlic-parm, lemon pepper, and Crazy Mike's dry rub and they were phenomenal! As much as I try to make it all about the wings we couldn't help but talk comedy and Bubba shares some pretty fun stories. Jenny Canfield is the owner of Laughs Unlimited in Sacramento California. Also known as "Shug White", Jenny is not a comic but she is one of the funniest people I know. I got to sit down with her at Big Pine 2021 in Phoenix. Jenny talks about how she got creative and thrived during the pandemic, about Laughs Unlimited 42 year history in Old Sacramento, and how she books: "Funny is Funny".

Ryan Cott is the Managing Partner of John Tobin Presents and he is passionate about the art of comedy. He hung out with us at Big Pine 2021 and talked about what he and his company are doing to create inclusion and support diversity on the business side of comedy. Ryan gives me the scoop of the best wings in Boston and why 10 cent wings taste better.

Joe Lowers and Jason Rowland joined me via Zoom to talk about their amazing festival and comedy competition: The World Series of Comedy! Joe had wings from Quaker State Steak & Lube in Pittsburg and Jason made his own wings at home in Canada. He used a multi-step recipe that included: marinating, baking and tossing in multiple sauces. In this episode Joe and Jason give us the goods and tell us how to get selected into WSOC, explain what makes a good submission tape, and talk about all the great benefits to getting involved with the WSOC.
