This week, amateur wine queens Kelley and Emily are trying their best (because pronunciations are hard) while sipping on some Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc to cope with Minnesota's second winter. Kelley starts us off by covering Paulina Luisi who was such a badass, she thought nothing of a severed penis being hidden in her bag. She was also the first women to earn a medical degree in Uruguay, fought for women's rights, advocated for more comprehensive sexual education, and generally GOT SHIT DONE. Emily talks about the onna-bugeisha, fierce female Japanese warriors. She covers 3 prominent onna-bugeisha each just as badass as the last. We also give a shout out to artist Gabriel Diaz (@gabydiazortiz) who is writing and illustrating a book on Artemisia Gentileschi! This week the ladies' synergy is in full force as they both cover prominent black women who broke down barriers and generally kicked ass! While sipping on some face-kicking Lake Girl Pontoon Red wine, Emily starts off with the story of Elizabeth Jennings Graham a teacher and church organist who was already running late for church and then kicked off of a streetcar for being black. She turned her shitty experience into a movement to fight segregation on transit in New York. Then, Kelley covers a gal who both she and Emily should have known, legendary mathematician Katherine Johnson! Katherine fought for her place at the table and was played a central role of some of NASA's most pivotal missions! We also give a special shout out to physicist Hedwig Kohn (132 years young girl!)
