And a great way of serving others is through mentorship which is the topic of this ongoing mini-series.

This episode with Steve Montague centers around the reciprocal nature of mentorship. Both the mentor and mentee can benefit from constantly learning and growing together. When taking on a mentee, Steve says he pays special attention to trust in the relationship, openness of the mentee, and the potential of the mentee to learn quickly. A mentee must show up authentically and humbly while accepting specific instructions from the mentor. The mentor is passing on a specific skill set to the mentee. At the heart of this relationship is the constant pursuit of inspiration in others. Seek out those mentors and mentees that move and inspire.

In order to be a successful mentee, one must first master what is going on inside. Mastering the inside equation is a necessary step to achieving goals within a mentor and mentee relationship. A mentee must also be “fully committed and not just mildly interested”. Time is one of the most valuable commodities that we have today. A mentor that is giving of their time should first be selective in taking on mentees, but must also make sure they are inspired in the process.

There are, of course, no perfect employers or employees, so mistakes must be anticipated. However, it is how one responds to the mistake or failure that is truly important. And it is up to the employer to create opportunities for growth that has the greatest impact on employees. 

Honest self-assessment of where a company is and where it’s going is a key factor for success. And with outside influences like COVID-19, managing energy in a hybrid workplace (post-COVID-19) can be challenging. A team of employees can make or break your business because people are energy — with that, it is critical to make sure the right person gets put in the right seat. The foundation gives back to local charities and hosts fundraisers that promote employee togetherness while giving back to the community.
