  • Day 1412 – The Missing Gas Cap – Humor Unplugged
Wisdom-Trek / Creating a LegacyWelcome to Day 1412 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Missing Gas Cap – Humor UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1412 of our Trek, and time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Humor Unplugged. Our Thursday podcast will provide a short and clean funny story to help you lighten up and live a rich and satisfying life. Something to cheer you and give a bit a levity in your life. We are told in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+15:30andversion=NLT (Proverbs 15:30) A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. We are also encouraged in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+17:22andversion=NLT (Proverbs 17:22) A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. Consider this your vitamin supplement of cheer for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s funny which is titled:
The Missing Gas CapOur friends John and Suzy headed out early one morning for a road trip. The first couple of days went off without a hitch. The weather was great, and they were making good time. On the third day towards evening, John pulls into a gas station to fill up the car for the next day. He paid for the gas and headed on down the road. About 30 minutes later he smacked himself on the forehead and told Suzy; I think I forgot to put the gas cap back on. So John pulls off the side of the road, and sure enough, the gas cap was missing. John pondered for a few minutes then said to himself, “other people must have done the same thing, I’ll look by the side of the road since even if find my own gas cap, I might be able to find one that fits.” John walked about 50 yards up the road, and sure enough, after only a short time of searching, John found a gas cap. He carefully wiped it off and slipped it into place with a satisfying click.
As he was getting back into the car, he wipes his hands on his jeans and proudly proclaims: "Great news Suzy! I may have lost my gas cap, but I found another one that fits, and it's even a better cap than the one I had - it locks!..."I hope that brought a smile to your face today. If it did pass your smile onto some else, we all could use a kind smile each day. Our Thursday thought is, “The bad news: There is no key to happiness. The Good News: It isn’t locked!”
Here is our verse for today:

  • Day 1411 – Mastering the Bible – Truth from the Epistles and the Apostles – Worldview Wednesday
Welcome to Day 1411 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomMastering the Bible – Truth from the Epistles and the Apostles – Worldview WednesdayWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Today is Day 1411 of our Trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday. Creating a Biblical Worldview is essential to have a proper perspective on today’s current events. To establish a Biblical Worldview, you must have a proper understanding of God and His Word. Our focus for the next several months on Worldview Wednesday is Mastering the Bible, through a series of brief insights. These insights are extracted from a book of the same title from one of today’s most prominent Hebrew Scholars, Dr. Micheal S. Heiser. This book is a collection of insights designed to help you understand the Bible better. When we let the Bible be what it is, we can understand it as the original readers did, and as its writers intended. Each week we will explore two insights.
Mastering The Bible – Truth From The Epistles and ApostlesInsight Seventy-Three: The Epistles Are the Antidote to the Idea That the Righteous Invariably ProsperPerhaps the notion will be foreign to you, but I have met Christians who presume that material wealth and personal success are proof of God’s blessing. There are whole ministries that play on people’s emotions that support this unbiblical philosophy. It doesn’t take much thought to realize how unbiblical that proposition is. Many unbelievers are financially prosperous and quite successful. Conversely, many believers have next to nothing. They aren’t poor or persecuted because they don’t have enough faith or because they haven’t sent money to a ‘television ministry.’ They are poor for a plethora of reasons, some of them quite complex and systemic to their political and cultural situation. But if they are faithful, they are also blessed.
Frankly, the poor and persecuted believers across the world resemble the early church more than believers in the American church. The Epistles don’t portray early believers and their fledgling congregations as unusually prosperous, influential, and relatively carefree. It’s precisely the opposite.
It is hard to miss the early believer’s social status if one invests any time reading the New Testament. Paul started numerous churches. Poverty and personal need was not unusual in them (2 Corinthians 8:1-2: Romans 16:2; Philippians 4:19; Titus 3:14). Paul and the apostles themselves were poor (2 Corinthians 6:10; Philippians 4:11-12). James’s words indicate that poverty was prevalent (James 2:2-6). The church at Jerusalem—surely loved deeply by God—was notoriously poor, so much so that Paul collected offerings for Jerusalem almost everywhere he went (Acts 2:42-47; 3:6; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; Galatians 2:7-10; cf. Rom. 15:26-28; Acts 24:17).
First-century believers also suffered severe persecution. The New Testament is filled with such descriptions. Despite the claims of modern religious hucksters, the apostles suffered, even though they were the very people one might suppose to be the most prosperous if God’s blessing leads to a life without hardship. The apostles were beaten (Acts 5:27-42), and the godly were martyred (Acts 7:54-60). Paul suffered with almost unbelievable regularity (Philippians 3:8-10; 2 Corinthians 5:21-29). Most of Peter’s first epistle is about enduring suffering for faith in Jesus (1 Peter 2:19-23; 3:14-18; 4:1-19:5:9-10). Perhaps the most poignant contradiction to the notion that wealth and prosperity defines the blessing of God is Jesus himself. Jesus was homeless and

  • Day 1410 – Called to Action – Wisdom Unplugged
Welcome to Day 1410 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomCalled To Action – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. This is Day 1410 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Theodore Roosevelt, and it is: For us is the life of action, of strenuous performance of duty; let us live in the harness, striving mightily; let us rather run the risk of wearing out than rusting out.
Called to ActionEveryone is called to action in life. God did not create us to sit around and have no impact on the lives of others. We are bearers of God’s image, that means our lives should be a representative of God and show His attributes to those who don’t know him. That being said, while we are all called to action, we are not all called to the same action. Some may have a more visible and leading role, while others are to be more supportive. God calls some to visible action, while others may not be noticed or stand out. One is not more important than the other, just different. Some may have more strenuous tasks of duty, while others are more leisure. Some may feel the weight of being yoked in the harness, which requires them to strive mightly, while others may have burdens that are easier to bear. In either case, we are to continue on with our call to action until God calls us home to be with Him. The key is, we are not to stop. We are to wear out due to use, opposed to rusting out due to idleness. Keep moving forward, engaged in the action to which you have been called. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+6:7andversion=NLT (Ephesians 6:7)
Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

  • Day 1409 – Our World Is Shaken – Meditation Monday
Welcome to Day 1409 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomOur World Is Shaken – Meditation MondayWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. This is Day 1409 of our Trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday. Taking time to relax, refocus, and reprioritize our lives is crucial in order to create a living legacy. For you, it may just be time alone for quiet reflection. You may utilize structured meditation practices. In my life, Meditation includes reading and reflecting on God’s Word and in prayer. It is a time to renew my mind, refocus on what is most important, and making sure that I am nurturing my soul, mind, and body. As you come along with me on our trek each Meditation Monday, it is my hope and prayer that you, too, will experience a time for reflection and renewing of your mind.
I am on my 64th revolution around the sun on this oasis of paradise that we call earth. On this earth, from the beginning of creation, there have been problems. I must admit though the first six months of 2020 has been what we would call a humdinger, and not in a good way. I think we are all a bit shaken at the moment. Today let us meditate on:
Our World is ShakenThere have been many twists and turns in my life. There have been many unexpected ups and downs. I am sure you have experienced the same. We would like to make sense of it all, because we desire to be in control, which we are not. We desire to have meaning in what has and is happening, but that is not always the case. The older I get, the more I can relate to wise King Solomon in his old age. He wrote in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes+1andversion=NLT (Ecclesiastes 1:2), “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”
We have heard thousands of times in the past few months that we are living in unprecedented times. We want to think that there has never been a time like we are currently facing. There is an ongoing worldwide pandemic that has claimed over 500,000 lives, and maybe many more. Now we have global unrest about injustices and prejudices, which are resulting in peaceful protest, and very unpeaceful rioting causing additional loss of life and destruction of property. We want to think that nothing like this has ever happened, that this is all new. Once again, wise King Solomon buts it this way in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes+1%3A9-11andversion=NLT (Ecclesiastes 1:9-11) History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually, it is old; nothing is ever truly new. We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.
In addition to global devastation, many individuals are also experiencing life-altering situations, many of which are personally devastating. These situations shake us to our very core. We feel like we are reeling out of control. We need a place to pause and regain our center.
So did the Christians at the end of the first century. Rome was trying to wipe out Christ-followers from the face of the earth. Their worlds were shaken to the core. The old apostle John writes to help them regain their center. Every day their world was spun wildly out of control by the ever-present threat of persecution. Their numbers were small as they gathered for worship of the One they claimed to be Lord. Up against the “powers that be” — both political and religious — their gatherings looked weak just as many of...

  • Day 1408 – Life After Covid-19 Part 5 – Ask Gramps
Wisdom-Trek / Creating a LegacyWelcome to Day 1408 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomLife After Covid-19 Part 5 – Ask GrampsWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. This is Day 1408 of our Trek and time for our Philosophy Friday series. Each Friday, we will ponder some of the fundamental truths and mysteries of life, and how they can impact us in creating our living legacy. As we continue on this trek called life, sometimes we have questions about life, so our Friday trek is a time where we can ‘Ask Gramps.’ Gramps will answer questions that you would like to ask your dad or granddad, but for whatever reason, this is not possible. No matter how old we are, I know that all of us would like the opportunity to ask dad or gramps questions about life in many areas.
We may mix it up a bit on our Friday episodes, but will strive to keep them down to earth and enjoyable. If you have any questions that you would like to ask Gramps, please email them to [email protected]
Last month, we addressed a question that is too broad to answer in one episode. The answer today is the fifth in a series which will continue this week and next on our ‘Ask Gramps’ episodes of how Covid-19 is impacting the long term economic effects in the United States. Please make sure that you download our Friday podcast sessions to follow the complete analysis. Better yet, subscribe to Wisdom-Trek so you can gain a bit of wisdom five days a week. So here is the question:
“Hey, Gramps, I realize that after this whole Covid-19 pandemic is under control, life will take on some sort of normalcy for most people. I can’t get my mind around how life will change with so many people out of work and many businesses not being able to survive. What is your take on how life will be after Covid-19?
Life After Covid-19 Part 5Our analysis so far has been overall Jobs in Manufacturing, Brick-and-Mortar Retail, Restaurant Industry/Future Dining, and Commercial Real Estate/Offices. As I mentioned in the past four weeks, I do not have a crystal ball nor a prophetic message about life after Covid-19. That being said, I do have over 40 years of business and nearly 64 years of life experience, which helps me to see what others may not.
The core of the content today and in subsequent weeks comes from a book and companion blog written by Peter Diamandis. His book, ‘The Future is Faster Than You Think,’ was published in January of this year before Covid-19. Peter has recently also stated that Covid-19 would accelerate his predictions significantly. I recommend his book.
Let me once again offer some perspective. It has been said that crises don’t so much alter the course of history as accelerate changes that are already underway. Exponential technology has been disrupting traditional industries at an ever-increasing pace. The pandemic has put these changes into hyperspeed. Never have we had the opportunity to rewrite entire sectors, redefine the problems they address, and reinvent their solutions. This is a scary and also exciting time to be alive! Any time we have a disaster such as this, there is also unlimited opportunity. The next economic sector we will explore Education: Impact: Perhaps the most dramatically notable effects of the pandemic have been on our schools. Practically overnight, millions of students became experts in “Zoom University.” And to date, roughly 1.38 billion students (primarily children) have been thrust into arguably the most dramatic industry pivot of this century.
    Last year, edtech investments soared...

    The Ravens and a Frog
Two big ravens were tired of the cold weather in Canada, so they decided to fly south for the winter. A frog was sitting next to them, overheard their conversation, and decided he wanted to go as well. The ravens squawked and laughed at the frog and said, “you’re just a frog- you can’t fly, and you certainly can’t jump there!” The frog was determined that he was going to leave, knowing that he didn’t want to stay in the cold either. So he thought and thought and thought.
“I got an idea!” the frog croaked. The frog hopped around until he found a long stick. He approached the ravens once again and said, “You two hold this stick in your claws, and I’ll hold on to the middle.”
The ravens squawked and laughed again and said, “With what?”. “Your little hands could never hold on to a stick!”
Being so proud of his idea, the frog puffed out his chest and croaked, “With my mouth.”
The ravens flapped their wings as they looked at each other. Then they put the stick in their claws. Immediately, the frog clamped on with his mouth, and they began to fly south successfully.
Everything was going supremely, and they were all very proud of themselves. A day or two later, a crowd of people walking on a cement sidewalk looked up and saw the two ravens flying about 200 feet overhead, holding a stick with a frog holding on in the middle with his mouth. Someone in the crowd exclaimed, “What a brilliant idea- I wonder who thought of that?”
The frog could not contain himself any longer and proudly croaked, “I did!”
I hope that brought a smile to your face today. If it did pass your smile onto some else, we all could use a kind smile each day. Our Thursday thought is, “Smiles are contagious! Go forth and contaminate as many people as you can!”
Here is our verse for today:
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+12:24andversion=NLT (Luke 12:24)
Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!

  • Day 1406 – Mastering the Bible – Jesus’s Return and The Law – Worldview Wednesday
Welcome to Day 1406 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomMastering the Bible – Jesus's Return and The Law – Worldview WednesdayWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Today is Day 1406 of our Trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday.
Mastering The Bible – Jesus’s Return and The LawInsight Seventy-One: New Testament Writers Expected Jesus to Return in Their LifetimeMany Christians are riveted by the study of biblical prophecy. They energetically study the Bible and look at current events for possible connections. They want to discern “the signs of the times” in earnest expectation of the return of Jesus.
That thinking isn’t foreign to the New Testament itself. The apostles and early believers expected the Lord’s return to be very soon. It was an impending event that they fully expected to see in their lifetime. We know this was the case from a variety of New Testament passages. Some are easy to read over and never notice. Others are transparent.
In regard to the former, consider https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+1%3A1-2andversion=NLT (Hebrews 1:1-2): Long ago, God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son, he created the universe. The writer of Hebrews believed he was living in the last days over 2,000 years ago. The apostle Peter said that Jesus was manifest to him and others https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+1%3A20andversion=NLT (1 Peter 1:20) God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days, he has been revealed for your sake. Peter warned his readers about the threat of self-serving scoffers “in the last days” (2 Peter 3:3). And the events at Pentecost were part of “the last days” (Acts 2:17).
Some passages are even more direct. The apostle John, writing in the book of Revelation, said, “The time is near” (Revelations 1:3; 22:10). The day of the Lord-the day of Christ’s return for New Testament believers—was “drawing near” (Hebrews 10:25). Some believers even thought they had missed it (2 Thessalonians 2:1-2)!
Paul taught the Thessalonian believers what to expect leading up to the Lord’s return: they needed to be mindful of their walk and faithfulness so as not to be unprepared like unbelievers would (l Thessalonians 5). It was sage advice. If we live as though the Lord could return soon, our lives will be pleasing to God and a blessing to ourselves and others, whether it happens soon or not. Jesus himself taught that no one could know the precise day or hour (Matthew 24:36). Since the intent of biblical prophecies associated with the first coming wasn’t obvious, we ought not to expect to be able to figure things out this next time. In other words, our interest in, and...

Wisdom-Trek / Creating a LegacyWelcome to Day 1405 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomSerious Faith – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. This is Day 1405 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Os Guinness, and it is: Find out how seriously a believer takes his doubts, and you have the index of how seriously he takes his faith.
Serious FaithDoubt and faith are opposed to each other. The greater your doubt, the less is your faith. The converse is also true, as your faith grows more substantial and more durable, the doubts and fears in your life will begin to decrease. All of us face a certain amount of fears, worries, and concerns, but to what extent do they influence and control your life? We cannot fool ourselves if we say we have strong faith but live fearfully; then we are deceitful by the very words we speak. Others can see your life and know if your faith is real and is controlling your life. So let’s take our faith seriously and practice it through minimizing the doubts and fears in our lives. Let us live a life of bold confidence in the One who has created us and is the champion of our faith. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+12:1-3andversion=NLT (Hebrews 12:1-3) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.That’s a wrap for today’s Wisdom Unplugged quote. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1404 of our Trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday.
I don’t know about you, but with the issues surrounding Covid-19 and now so much civil unrest, there are days where I just feel exhausted. This is a bit odd for Paula and me since our schedules and routines have not really changed all that much. We do work with some companies that have been impacted significantly, so that may be part of it. I also attribute some of this exhaustion to the cares we have for family members, friends, and business associates who have been impacted. Plus, none of us like the unknown, and in the past three months, there have been more unknowns that face each of us personally. In addition to that, the entire world has been impacted. So it is not surprising that all of us are more prone to being exhausted. We all need some time to reflect and recharge. Today let us meditate on:
A Quiet Place of RestHow do you restore your energies after you have reached the exhaustion point? What do you do when the fatigue debt has mounted so high in every dimension of your life — physical, emotional, and spiritual — that you do not think you can do one more thing? Where do you go for renewal when plenty of sleep doesn’t relieve the bone-weariness that pulses through every fiber of your being?
These are not hypothetical questions. You probably know that from personal experience. There is a kind of tiredness that nothing seems to relieve. This kind of exhaustion comes at the end of a long spiritual battle or from being the long-term caregiver for a loved one. Maybe it stems from ministering to people repeatedly until you are completely depleted. Possibly you are battling a long and debilitating illness or from a myriad of other issues. For many of us who have found ourselves in such wearisome conditions, retreat and rest are often prescribed. They are also much desired. Yet many find such restful retreats remedy their weariness for just a short time, only to learn its return has left them feeling entirely and perpetually “burned out.”
Elijah’s example of rest and refreshment after his exhaustion is a good one. Food and rest were not enough for Elijah to be renewed (https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/niv/1%20Kings%2019.1-7 (1 Kings 19:1-7)), although they were part of his healing. What Elijah needed most, however, was to be in the presence of God. He needed to have God minister to him and speak directly to his heart (https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/niv/1%20Kings%2019.8-18 (1 Kings 19:8-18)). God spoke to Elijah in a gentle whisper (https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/niv/1%20Kings%2019.12 (1 Kings 19:12)) and called Elijah back into service, reminding him there were others out there still serving the LORD God (https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/niv/1%20Kings%2019.18 (1 Kings 19:18)). One of these, in...

  • Day 1403 – Life After Covid-19 Part 4 – Ask Gramps
Wisdom-Trek / Creating a LegacyWelcome to Day 1403 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomLife After Covid-19 Part 4 – Ask GrampsWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is https://wisdom-trek.com/captivate-podcast/day-1403/ (Day 1403) of our trek, and it is time for our Philosophy Friday series. Each Friday, we will ponder some of the fundamental truths and mysteries of life and how they can impact us in creating our living legacy.
As we continue on this trek called life, sometimes we have questions about life, so our Friday trek is a time when we can “Ask Gramps.” Gramps will answer questions that you would like to ask your dad or granddad, but for whatever reason, you are unable to. No matter how old we are, I know that all of us would like the opportunity to ask dad or gramps questions about life in many areas.
We may mix it up a bit on our Friday episodes, but we will strive to keep them down to earth and enjoyable. If you have any questions that you would like to ask Gramps, please email them to [email protected].
Earlier last month, we addressed a question that is too broad to answer in one episode. The answer today is the fourth in a series that will span several weeks, which I will address on our Ask Gramps episodes, discussing the long term economic effects of the pandemic. Please make sure that you download our Friday podcast sessions to follow the complete analysis. Better yet, subscribe to Wisdom-Trek so you can gain a bit of wisdom five days a week. So here is the question…
“Hey, Gramps, I realize that after this whole Covid-19 pandemic is under control, life will take on some sort of normalcy for most people. I can’t get my mind around how life will change with so many people out of work and many businesses not being able to survive. What is your take on how life will be after Covid-19?”
    Life After Covid-19 Part 4
Our analysis so far has been overall jobs in manufacturing, brick-and-mortar retail, and the restaurant industry/future dining. As I mentioned in the past three weeks, I do not have a crystal ball nor a prophetic message about life after Covid-19. That being said, I do have over 40 years of business and nearly 64 years of life experience, which help me to see what others may not.
The core of the content today and in subsequent weeks comes from a book and companion blog written by Peter Diamandis. His book The Future Is Faster Than You Think was published in January of this year before Covid-19.
The next economic sector we will explore is commercial real estate and offices.
Impact: The commercial real estate market is about to take a severe hit. And the real estate domino effect can topple adjacent financial institutions as well.
As thousands of companies race to digitize, offices are rapidly migrating to digital platforms and dematerializing entire divisions and corporate...
