  • Day 1824 – A Poor Worker – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1826 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
A Poor Worker – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1824 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom. Today, we have a very special guest and one of my namesakes, Harold Guthrie Chamberlain, V, my nearly 10-year-old grandson, and son of my eldest son Harold Guthrie Chamberlain, IV. We are proud to pass down our legacy, part of which is our name. We also call our grandson by his Kenyan name, Kiprono, or Kip for short. His mama is from Kenya, and we are also proud of the rich history that ties him to Kenya, where his other grandparents still live. We know that wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. Kip is going to read today’s nugget of wisdom.

Today’s quote is from George Herbert, and it is: A poor worker always finds fault with their tools.
    A Poor Worker

The idea behind this expression is that a good worker would take full responsibility for any fault and not try to blame his equipment. Therefore, someone blaming shoddy work on their tools must not be very skilled. In other words, an unskilled person cannot do skilled work even with the very best tools. But, unfortunately, we live in a world where some people will not take responsibility for the quality of their work. Instead, they will blame their tools, work situation, co-workers, or even their family instead of being willing to accept responsibility. A person who does this will never improve because they constantly blame someone or something else. We need to accept responsibility and then take the necessary steps to improve our shortcomings and areas of weaknesses. Never blame; always seek to improve. God’s Word shows us how to be an approved worker.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Timothy%202%3A15andversion=NLT (2 Timothy 2:15)

Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the Word of truth.

A Pile Of Rocks – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1823 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Antoine de Saint-Exupery, and it is: A pile of rocks ceases to be a rock when somebody contemplates it with the idea of a cathedral in mind.
    A Pile Of Rocks

It has been said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that statement is so true. Of course, it applies to people, but it can apply to just about anything. For example, before we had the opportunity to work with a construction company in Arizona, I thought that the desert had quite ugly landscapes, especially compared to southeastern Ohio’s lush green rolling hills. However, after living in Arizona part-time, I came to love the beauty of the desert. Indeed, it was different but beautiful in its way. If you look for it, you can see God’s hand and beauty in almost anything, person, or situation. As with our quote today, if you take your eyes off a pile of different sizes of uncut rocks in your mind’s eye, you can begin to see the beautiful cathedral that that same pile of ugly rocks can construct. So instead of negatively looking at people, places, or things and judging them, look for the beauty within them. Look to the valleys, plains, hills, and the heavens, and we see that indeed God’s beauty surrounds us everywhere we choose to see it.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes%203%3A11andversion=NLT;NIV (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Harry Truman, and it is: A pessimist makes difficulties of his opportunities, and an optimist makes opportunities of his difficulties.
    Opportunities In Difficulties

Our outlook and mindset highly influence how we view and function in life. If we loath difficulties and grind to a halt every time we face them, we will never make much progress in life. Opportunities are always full of difficulties. The bigger the opportunity, the greater the difficulties will be. As always, we have a choice. We can be hindered when faced with opportunities or take advantage of them, regardless of their difficulties.

Interestingly, in both situations, the opportunities are the same; it is all in how we view them. So since we do have a choice, life becomes much more enjoyable and worth living if we consider all opportunities from an optimistic mindset. Since we are created to be imagers of God, we should see every opportunity that God brings our way as an opportunity to build His kingdom. Let’s do so to the best of our abilities for His honor and glory.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians%206%3A10andversion=NLT (Galatians 6:10)

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

Today’s quote is from Todd Hahn, and it is: A person’s value and worth has nothing to do with his or her morality.
    Value and Worth

As a Christ-follower, you may think that I should never include a quote like this on Wisdom-Trek because living a moral life should be required as a Christian. It is a benchmark of our relationship with a Holy God. Although morality is a manifestation of our relationship with God, it is certainly not the basis of that relationship. Our relationship with God is based solely on the finished work of Jesus Christ. While we are encouraged in God’s Word to live a Biblically moral life, our value and worth in God’s sight are viewed through His Son and not by any righteous works we may do or have done. Understand and know that the purpose for living a virtuous and moral life is to honor a holy God who views us so worthy and valuable that He was willing to sacrifice His own son so we may have a relationship with Him. Live a life worthy of that calling.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+1%3A16-17andversion=NLT (Romans 1:16-17)

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile. This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

Today’s quote is from Jill Sterklel, and it is: A person’s attitude, effort, and commitment provide the power and passion that makes unique and special things happen.
    Make Things Happen

We tend to look at individuals who always seem to succeed and accomplish much in their lives and wonder how it is possible. However, if we investigated further, there would be a common thread throughout their lives. First, we would discover that those individuals who continuously succeed also have a proportionate number of failures. Second, we would find that they maintain a positive attitude and an undiminished level of effort and commitment to succeed even through their failures. Because of their attitude, effort, and commitment, they can generate the power and passion needed to make unique and special things happen. The more adversity, the more driven they are to succeed. As imagers of the most high God, we need to have the same attitude and drive in everything to bring honor and glory to His name.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+3%3A23-24andversion=NLT (Colossians 3:23-24)

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

Today’s quote is from Croft M. Pentz, and it is: A person worth following is a follower of Christ.
    A Person Worth Following

We need to be very careful about who we follow and who influences our lives. As Christ-followers, we need to follow those who are followers of Christ themselves. The worldviews that we are forming are shaped by those we emulate. If we imitate someone whose lives are not fully grounded in God’s Word, our worldview will become skewed and we will get off the path we should be following. We all have 168 hours per week; how we invest that time will determine the return on that investment. If we follow a person without the proper worldview, we will lose the return on our investment. First, we must know and follow God’s precepts, and then we need to make sure those who are mentoring us are also grounded in God’s Word. To do anything less is putting us in danger of failing in our spiritual walk.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2015%3A33andversion=NLT (1 Corinthians 15:33)

Today’s quote is from Henry Ward Beecher, and it is: A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs--jolted by every pebble in the road
    A Sense of Humor

Life is too short and absurd not to have a robust sense of humor. It’s good to laugh with others and at yourself as often as possible. Granny and I share great laughs together every day. Usually, at something silly one or both of us have done or said. Humor not only makes life easier to live, but also it is good for your body, mind, and soul. Without humor, life is rough and can be miserable. A life without humor is like living with a pebble in your shoe, or riding in an old wagon without any springs or suspension. So be willing to laugh at yourself. We all do silly things each day. A sense of humor is the oil of life’s engine. Without it, the machinery creaks and groans. No lot is so hard, no aspect of things is so grim, but it relaxes before a hearty laugh. So lighten up and laugh and live. Look for humor in everyday life.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%20126%3A2andversion=NLT (Psalm 126:2)

Today’s quote is from Dayle Maloney, and it is: A person with big dreams is more powerful than a person with all the facts.
    Big Dreams

Dreams are just dreams until action is taken, but dreams are the starting point for that action to begin. You can have all the facts and knowledge needed to execute a dream, but the facts and knowledge have little value until that dream is formed. The truth is, you may need to begin with the dream and then gather the required facts and knowledge to determine if the dream is viable before action is taken. It starts with the dream, then the due diligence, then form a plan, and only after the first three steps are completed can action begin. The bigger your dream, the greater possibility for tremendous success. So dream, dream big, then start converting that dream into reality. Allow God to direct your paths in the process. He will ensure that your dreams and plans are also according to His will.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from unknown, and it is: A person who knows everything has a lot to learn.
    A Lot To Learn

All of us have probably met a person who thought of themselves as a know it all. However, a few people seem to have a lot of facts stored away in their brains and can recall them at will. Some have a photographic memory or are incredible at remembering details and trivia. My Gramps was a bit like that. He seemed to be knowledgeable on just about every topic imaginable. He was very smart and had a scientific and engineering mindset, so he could absorb and remember information about many subjects. Of course, we didn’t always believe everything he told us, but more often than not, he was correct.

On the other hand, some attempt to come across as knowing everything, but those individuals certainly have a lot to learn about life. It is ok, to share knowledge and information you have gathered throughout the years, but remember, there is always more to learn. The wisest people are those who never stop learning, no matter how knowledgeable they are today. Remember, there is a huge difference between being wise and having a lot of knowledge.

  • Day 1815 – A Nice Person – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1815 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
A Nice Person – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1815 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Anonymous, and it is: A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person.
    A Nice Person

You can tell a person’s character based on how they treat others who can do nothing for them. If they are rude or nasty in any manner to those who do not have any societal position in life, then they are not a nice person. They will end up treating you in the same manner at some point if you fail to meet their particular need or status. So beware and be observant of how others treat anyone that comes into their life, regardless of position. How they treat the least will be an indication of their true character. The same applies to us also. As Christ-followers, we should treat everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve. Remember, they are also created as imagers of our holy God. There are many examples of how Christ was most kind to those who most cultures would deem unworthy.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+25%3A34-40andversion=NLT (Matthew 25:34-40)

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.’
