  • Day 1834 – Realist or Skeptic? – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1834 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

Realist or Skeptic? – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1834 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Warren Wiersbe, and it is: A realist is an idealist who has gone through the fire and been purified. A skeptic is an idealist who has gone through the fire and been burned.
    Realist or Skeptic?

I have to admit that I am very much an optimist, and within my personality style, I tend to reframe every situation to appear in the best light possible. I do tend to be idealistic at times. That being said, I have lived enough of life over the past 65 years to understand that I must live as a realist. Sometimes life is not fair, and everyone goes through trials and tribulations. I have gone through my share of life difficulties, but I have allowed those fires to help mature and purify me as best as possible. I have not let that fire stifle me or my pursuit of living a rich and satisfying life. Other people are also idealists, as I have been at times, but have been discouraged when going through the fires of life. Because of this mindset, they become very skeptical of living life. The fires may be similar in both situations, but our worldview and perspective will determine whether we become a realist or a skeptic. It is a choice; what is your choice? As Christians, we are to live a life of abundance, knowing that God has an eternal plan for us, and the trials are to mature and purify us.

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is: A real friend is when you can sit alone together and never say a word...and walk away feeling that you have had the best conversation.
    The Best Conversation

True friendship runs much deeper than conversations that we may have with acquaintances, and sometimes even family members. Yet, so often, it is thought that friendships are built on having meaningful conversations with others. So, while you must frequently communicate with friends, there are no more extended periods of awkward silence within a conversation as the friendship deepens. Instead, deep abiding friendships allow for a time of communion with each other where no actual words are spoken, but just the peaceful harmony of silence where you are content to be with someone you deeply love and respect. That is when you know in your heart that the friendship is real and everlasting. That is the type of friendship that I have fostered with Granny. Yes, we have our time talking about many things and laughing about the simple things we do. But some of the best conversations are just being in each other’s company and feeling blessed, even if few words are spoken.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2018%3A24andversion=NLT (Proverbs 18:24)

There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.

Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is: A real friend is a person who, when you’ve made a fool of yourself, lets you forget it.
    A Real Friend

Do you have a friend that is so close to you that no matter how simple or foolish you are, they can laugh with you but never makes an issue of it. They will rarely mention it again and let it fade from your memory. Granny is that friend for me. No matter if I make a fool of myself, she never brings it up in a negative manner. Now there are times when we will laugh with each other for some of the simple and foolish things we do in life. I admit; it does allow times for a lot of laughing in our relationship. That is an essential ingredient for a strong marriage or any close friendship. Life is too short not to forgive and forget so that you can live a rich and satisfying life. So the next time a spouse or friend makes a fool of themselves, let them forget it and don’t bring it up. You would want the same thoughtfulness when you do foolish things also.

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2013%3A34-35andversion=NLT (John 13:34-35)

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

A Real Decision – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.

Today’s quote is from Tony Robbins, and it is: A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve taken a new action. If there’s no action, you haven’t truly decided.
    A Real Decision

A decision made must be connected to an action that is taken. Otherwise, you decide to do nothing, which is not a decision. Action is the key to making your choices tangible. You can sit around and think about taking action on a matter, but until you actually act, you might as well not waste your mental energy contemplating what you might do. My grandma Burkhart called that a mugwump. She explained it this way, you can spit in one hand and wish in the other, and you will end up with the same result; nothing is accomplished. So unless you enjoy being a mugwump, I suggest that when you make decisions, you also follow through with taking action. As a Christ-follower, we are warned in Scripture that we should not be idle but always work as though we are working for God’s glory and not our satisfaction.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Thessalonians+3%3A6-10andversion=NLT (2 Thessalonians 3:6-10)

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us. For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you. We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you. We certainly had the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow. 10 Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”

Today’s quote is from Janette Oke, and it is: A quiet morning with a loving God puts the events of the upcoming day into proper perspective.
    A Proper Perspective

How do you start your day? I realize that not everyone is a morning person, as I tend to be, so you may have to flip your schedule around. The key is to make sure you set aside time each day to invest with God through the reading of His Word and in prayer. Early morning works for me, and certainly sets the tone for my entire day. I get up at 5:00 am each weekday and listen to Scripture, devotionals, and uplifting podcasts while I exercise. I exercise for about 75 minutes, allowing for a significant amount of time to make sure that my mind is set correctly and that I build on a Biblical worldview. If I have the correct worldview, then I can filter the mass of information that I consume during the day based on God’s perspective instead of my inclinations. So no matter what time you wake up each day, start it with God. We need a proper perspective of life, which will only happen when we filter it through God’s perspective.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%2012%3A2andversion=NLT (Romans 12:2)

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Today’s quote is from J Croft M. Pentz, and it is: A providence that provides for sparrows will certainly protect the saints.
    Providence That Provides

We become overly concerned about how we are going to take care of ourselves. We panic and fret about providing for our families, paying our bills, or saving for unexpected expenses. However, if our faith is in a holy God who created all things and loves us beyond what we could ever think or imagine, we should rest in the fact that indeed He will also take care of both our small and large needs and even some of our wants, if our heart is focused on Him. Most of what we are fearful of will never come to pass. Even if we go through hardships and tribulations at times, God will give us the strength to carry on, no matter what. So let us do the best that we can with the talents and abilities given to us by God, and then allow God to provide for us just as he provides for the sparrows.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%206%3A25%2D27andversion=NLT (Matthew 6:25-27)

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

    Productive Coaching
    [caption id="attachment_30623" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Source: Trueffelpix / shutterstock[/caption]

Effective coaching requires a willing and qualified person to coach and another person who strongly desires to receive the instruction from the coach. Effective coaching will not happen if you are missing either of those elements. Intense desire must burn within the soul of both persons. We all need coaching in life. It may be formal coaching, such as on a sports team or a business situation, or a relaxed position where a parent teaches their children appropriate behavior or practical skills. If you are the coach, you need to have a passion for assisting others in growing and flourishing. If you are being coached, you need a desire to learn, improve, and excel. When this combination matches up, there is no limit to what can be accomplished. In Biblical terms, this same process is called discipleship. Jesus Christ was a master coach to those who followed Him. Those being disciples had a burning desire to be taught. We are also called to spread the Good News by making disciples through the great commission.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.

Today’s quote is an old Proverb, and it is: A positive conviction without accurate information is a dangerous thing.
    Accurate Information

We can have strong and positive convictions about a particular subject or person, but if it is inaccurate, it will lead to self-delusion and a cultic environment. Unfortunately, many people have been led astray by a dynamic personality who gathered a following based on their rhetoric that is full of positive conviction but did not contain the whole truth about a matter. This person may soon gather a cult, but they will lead the followers down the wrong path. But, on the other hand, we can have a true positive conviction based on the truth when our talk and walk follow God’s Word. It is great to have a positive conviction, but only when our beliefs align with God’s precepts. Then, we need a call to spiritual growth.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+5%3A11-14andversion=NLT (Hebrews 5:11-14)

There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.

Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is: A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, and it sparks extraordinary results.
    Extraordinary Results

Any achievement accomplished in life start with a positive attitude believing that change is possible. A positive attitude is like a series of connected pieces of dynamite. Once the first piece is lit and explodes, it transfers the energy to the subsequent source of explosion in line. This chain reaction starts with a positive attitude which links to positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. Once this chain reaction begins, the very catalyst ignites extraordinary results. So plant the seeds of a positive attitude each day, and you will harvest a massive crop of results. As a Christ-follower, there is never a reason to be negative in our attitudes. We have all that we need to live a godly life. We have the same power of God working through us by His Holy Spirit who dwells within. Live a life worthy of our calling.

For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Croft M. Pentz, and it is: A pint of example is worth a thousand sermons.
    A Thousand Sermons

I am sure you have heard that we need to walk our talk, and that is so true, and I agree. Especially as Christ-followers, we need to ensure that our daily lives match what we talk about and that what we talk about is in line with God’s precepts. There is much harm that can be done to the cause of Christ if our example betrays our faith. We are to be salt and light in a tasteless and dark world. If we are not, then God’s kingdom will not be built through us as it should be. So the next time you are about to open your mouth to say something, talk about someone, or spread information that is not true, then it would be best to pause and either say nothing, or only say that which is encouraging uplifting to others. Don’t let your thousand sermons return empty.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+4%3A29-30andversion=NLT (Ephesians 4:29-30)

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
