Welcome to Day 1774 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

Defeated By Self – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1774 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Jan Christian Smuts, and it is: A man is not defeated by his opponents but by himself.
    Defeated By Self

No one can be permanently defeated unless they choose to give up. Hence, in most situations, the person who no longer tries will experience the agony of defeat instead of the thrill of victory. Yes, we may fail, but we are not defeated as long as we do not fail to begin again. Being defeated comes from within when you give up, trying again. Therefore, there is always another chance for victory if we choose to persevere during those difficult times. Life is not always easy, and it is sometimes downright difficult, but that is life. That is no excuse to quit. We are created to be imagers of God, and He has gifted us with all that we need to live a victorious life in Him. No one has the same talents and abilities, and God only expects us to use what He has given to us. If we do that, then we will always be successful as we continue to journey through our trek of life.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+12%3A4-11andversion=NLT (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.

Today’s quote is from Mahatma Gandhi, and it is: A man is but the product of his thoughts what he thinks, he becomes.
    You Become What You Think

This quote has so much truth contained in it. It also mirrors the same teaching that is found in God’s Word. Many people look at a quote like this and slant it towards something wrong or evil, but the opposite can be true. Once again, it goes back to the law of planting and harvesting. Whatever you plant into your mind, that is what will grow in your life. That is what you will become. It is so evident. We don’t ever slip into bad or good habits. Our continual thought process forms habits, and the actions we take are based on those thoughts. The key is to saturate your mind with good, pleasing, kind, and encouraging to others. Anyone can become a person of virtue. Even if you have to plow up the lousy soil of your mind and then start with a new crop, it is achievable.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+6%3A43-45andversion=NLT (Luke 6:43-45)

“A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Today’s quote is from Bob Dylan, and it is: A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between, he does what he wants to do.
    Success Brings Contentment

There are many measures of success, but one of the most valid measures of a successful and content person is someone who loves what they do from the time they wake up in the morning until they lay down to sleep at night. This person may not be financially wealthy or well known, but having enough to take care of themselves and their families, they are satisfied with life. So many people are always chasing that elusive rainbow where the grass is always greener. Even if they do become rich and famous, they are always grasping for more. That is not success, but slavery to materialism, vanity, and pride. We need to work towards being a person of integrity and conviction. A person who cares for their family and others will find enjoyment and satisfaction at the end of any day.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians%204%3A10%2D12andversion=NLT (Philippians 4:10-12)

How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Ralph W. Sockman, and it is: A man has no more character than he can command in a time of crisis.
    True Character

It becomes very evident what a person's true character is when they go through challenging times, trials, and tribulations. All of us can be pleasant and of good nature when all is well with us, our families, work, and finances. The test is to impact even one of those areas of life, and then you start to see the veneer crumble to expose what is contained beneath it. When we are in the midst of a crisis, we begin to see our true selves. How do you act and react when the pressure is on and all in not well? Our lives must be built on the foundation of God’s Word, so when the storms come raging through our lives we will stand firm. When we can command ourselves, with God’s strength and peace, during those storms, then our true character is revealed.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+7%3A24-27andversion=NIV (Matthew 7:24-27)

“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Today’s quote is from Henry David Thoreau, and it is: A man had better starve at once than lose his innocence in the process of getting his bread.
    Don’t Lose Your Innocence

Doing what is right and living a life of integrity is much more important than any riches or resources we can possibly obtain. Therefore, it is much better to do without, even if it is painful, than to compromise your integrity by going against God’s precepts found in His Word. There are few, if any, material things in life worth compromising your reputation. It may require that you step out in faith, knowing that it is God’s will, even if you need to sacrifice greatly, that He will provide. We should never do wrong, even if it seems that the results would be positive. The ends do not justify the means. Do what is right always, and long-term, you will live a rich and satisfying life.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Titus%202%3A11%2D13andversion=NLT (Titus 2:11-13)

For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.

Today’s quote is from Cicero, and it is: A man full of courage is also full of faith.
    Full Of Courage

Since I have been a Christ-follower since early in life, it is difficult to imagine how a person without a strong faith in God could also be a courageous person. Therefore, although I understand that I may be more confident and courageous than most people I meet, my confidence and courage are rooted in my faith that God is the creator of all things seen and unseen. Furthermore, since I have been created as an imager of God, I can have the confidence that He is in control of everything in my life, and there is nothing that can happen to me outside of God’s plan for my life. Therefore, I know if I make choices contrary to the precepts found in God’s Word, I will harvest what I have planted. On the flip side, if I plant what God desires for my life, I will harvest the crop that results from right living. The formula is simple. Follow God’s precepts, and we can live a confident and courageous life.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua+1%3A6-9andversion=NLT (Joshua 1:6-9)

“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is: A man doesn’t become a failure until he is satisfied with being one.
    Don’t Become A Failure

Failure, in most cases, is a frame of mind and not an actual event. We can fail repeatedly, but until we are satisfied that failure is our lot in life, then we have not truly failed. There is no limit to the number of times you can get back up on your feet, dust yourself off, and begin again with even more wisdom than before. Only when we become comfortable with living below our God-given potential, we start the downward spiral of mediocracy, which eventually leads to failure. We may not be abundantly prosperous in all of our endeavors, but as long as we persevere and do the best we can for today, we are on the path to success.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+25%3A20-23andversion=NLT (Matthew 25:20-27)

The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’

“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

“The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’

“The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

“Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’

“But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1767 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.

Today’s quote is from John F. Kennedy, and it is: A man does what he must – in spite of personal consequences, despite obstacles and dangers and pressures.
    Forced Action

When our backs are up against a wall, when we are between a rock and a hard place, when ourselves or our families are in peril, we will rise to the occasion and do what we must. It is incredible what we can do when we have no other choice but to move forward. Come hell or high water, in times of crises, we quit thinking about our personal consequences and are able to overcome obstacles, dangers, and pressures to do what is necessary. It is through times of crisis when we have the strength and fortitude that is needed to overcome. It is in times of failure that we can learn the lessons needed to succeed. This is one of the primary reasons we should not be overly discouraged when life does not go according to plan. It causes us to learn, mature, and gain the wisdom that is needed for life.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+16%3A31-33andversion=NLT (John 16:31-33)

Jesus asked, “Do you finally believe? But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone. Yet, I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1766 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.

Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is: A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.
    Same Opinion

This quote is quite well known, but is more truthful today than at any point in past history. With the self-appointment experts that troll social media and populate most of the 24/7 newscast the fight for people's attention is at a fever pitch. We all like to pontificate on our knowledge and so-called wisdom, but the fact is very few of us are experts or understand that which we so vehemently defend. We will not convince others that our opinions are correct by arguing and fighting with them. We will not convince others by separating from them or trying to get them canceled. Truth and wisdom are in such short supply today that it has become the leading critical issue. It isn't easy to believe anything we are told from our politicians, the news media, and most social media postings. Deep fakes and outright lies flood most of what we consume as information today. It is not convincing anyone, but makes us much more skeptical of anything that may have some truth embedded within. We need to turn back to the only source of truth: God and the precepts found in His Word. God’s Word is the one truth we can believe in, and it will change our opinions, hearts, and minds.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+2%3A13-16andversion=NLT (1 Corinthians 2:13-16)

When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For,

“Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to teach him?”

But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.

Feed On Truth – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1765 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.

Today’s quote is from C.S. Lewis, and it is: A man can’t always be defending the truth; there must be a time to feed on it.
    Feed On Truth

While we have a mandate and obligation to defend the truth, we have to understand that if we don’t intimately know that same truth, there is no way for us to defend it adequately. Therefore, you must continually feed on that truth so that it will be second nature to you when it is time to defend it. It will be like breathing or your heart beating. When your life is marinated with God’s truth, it will seep from your pores at the slightest contact with that which is false. When you boil it all down, though, the truths found in God’s Word will defend themselves. Therefore, your responsibility is to know the truth well enough that when you speak God’s Word, it will be sufficient. So focus on feeding on the truth so that it will defend itself.

    Ephesians 6:10-18

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
