Welcome to Day 2332 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 28:8-14 Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2332 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2332 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we’ll be exploring Proverbs 28:8-14 from the New Living Translation. In these verses, we’ll uncover insights into the consequences of dishonesty, the blessings of living with integrity, and the importance of seeking wisdom. So, let’s delve into the wisdom of Proverbs. Verses 8-10: “Income from charging high interest rates will end up in the pocket of someone who is kind to the poor. God detests the prayers of a person who ignores the law. Those who lead good people along an evil path will fall into their own trap, but the honest will inherit good things.” These verses contrast the outcomes of dishonesty and integrity, emphasizing the importance of righteousness and obedience to God’s law. How can we understand the consequences of dishonesty and the blessings of living with integrity? Embrace Integrity: Recognize the importance of living with integrity and righteousness in all aspects of life. Avoid dishonest practices, such as charging high interest rates or ignoring the law, knowing that they lead to destruction and harm. Instead, be kind to the poor and obey God’s law, knowing that it leads to blessings and prosperity. Lead others along the path of righteousness, knowing it leads to the inheritance of good things. Embrace integrity in your dealings with others, knowing that it is pleasing to God and brings honor to His name. Now, let’s explore verses 11-12. “The rich think of themselves as wise, but a poor person who has discernment sees through them. When the godly succeed, everyone is glad. When the wicked take charge, people go into hiding.” These verses highlight the importance of discernment and the consequences of godly leadership. How can we understand the importance of discernment and the consequences of godly leadership? Cultivate Discernment: Recognize the importance of cultivating discernment and wisdom in all areas of life. Be wary of those who boast of their riches and consider themselves wise, knowing that true wisdom comes from God alone. Cultivate a spirit of discernment that allows you to see through the facade of the wicked and recognize their true nature. Celebrate the success of the godly, knowing that it brings joy and blessings to all. Be vigilant in your leadership discernment, knowing that our choices have far-reaching consequences for ourselves and our communities. Seek godly leadership that aligns with the principles of righteousness and justice, knowing that it leads to peace and prosperity for all. And finally, let’s turn our attention to verses 13-14. “People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Blessed are those who fear to do wrong, but the stubborn are headed for serious trouble.” These verses emphasize the importance of humility, repentance, and reverence...

  • Day 2331– Philippians-8 Human Rubbish vs Divine Righteousness
Welcome to Day 2331 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Philippians-8 Human Rubbish vs Divine Righteousness – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 01/28/2023 Joy in Sharing – Human Rubbish vs. Divine Righteousness Philippians 3:1-11 Last week, we discussed Paul being thankful for two close friends, Timothy and Epaphroditus, in a message, “A Son and a Brother.” Today, we begin the 3rd section in the letter to the church in Philippi, Joy in Sharing. True joy is a fruit of the Spirit in the life of believers. It ranks second, after love, in Paul’s list in Galatians 5:22–23: But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Like all manifestations of the Spirit’s work in our lives, joy is constantly attacked by the world, the flesh, and the devil.   The deeds of the flesh will try to weaken our joy through things like hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, and envy. (Gal. 5:17–21). The world will try to stifle our joy through pain, suffering, tragedies, and stress. The evil one will try to thwart our joy by taking our attention away from Jesus Christ and tempting us to find joy in things that cannot satisfy, as is mentioned in our closing hymn, “Fill my Cup, Lord.”   The real threat to the joyful Christian life comes into focus in the third part of Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Remember the overarching purpose of Paul’s letter to the Christians at Philippi: to encourage them to find Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered joy in living, serving, sharing, and resting. Paul reinforces this theme in the opening line of chapter 3: “Rejoice in the Lord.” Yet, knowing that there are threats out there, he wants to share with his readers a “safeguard” for their joy (Phil. 3:1). This comes first in the form of a warning about putting confidence in the flesh rather than worshiping God in the Spirit and glorying in Christ in today’s message (3:2–11). Paul also shares the goal of joyful Christian living—the upward call of God in Christ in next week’s message(3:12–16)—and calls his readers to follow the pattern he has shown them, until the glorious day when their mortal bodies will be transformed to be like Christ’s in two weeks (3:17–21). This week's focus is a comparison message titled Human Rubbish vs. Divine Righteousness. Today's scripture passage is Philippians 3:1-11 on page 1828, in your Pew Bibles. 1 Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. 2 Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5...

I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2330 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we’ll be exploring Proverbs 28:1-7 from the New Living Translation. In these verses, we’ll uncover insights into the consequences of wickedness, the blessings of living with integrity, and the importance of seeking wisdom. So, let’s dive into the wisdom of Proverbs. Verses 1-2: “The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions. When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.” These verses contrast the behavior and outcomes of the wicked and the godly. How can we understand the consequences of wickedness and the blessings of living with integrity? Recognize the importance of living with integrity and godliness in all aspects of life. Be bold and courageous in standing firm for what is right, even when faced with opposition or adversity. Avoid the pitfalls of wickedness and moral decay, knowing they lead to destruction and instability. Instead, strive to be wise and knowledgeable leaders who bring stability and prosperity to your community and nation. Embrace the principles of honesty, righteousness, and integrity, knowing they are the foundation of a thriving society. Now, let’s explore verses 3-4. “A poor person who oppresses the poor is like a pounding rain that destroys the crops. To reject the law is to praise the wicked; to obey the law is to fight them.” These verses highlight the importance of justice and righteousness in society. How can we understand the importance of justice and righteousness in society? Uphold Justice: Recognize the importance of upholding justice and righteousness in society, especially for the oppressed and marginalized. Avoid oppressing others through exploitation or neglect, knowing that it leads to destruction and harm. Instead, seek to uphold the law and fight against injustice and wickedness in all its forms. Be advocates for the poor and oppressed, standing up for their rights and working to create a more just and equitable society. Uphold the principles of righteousness and obedience to the law, knowing they are essential for combating evil and promoting the common good. And finally, let’s turn our attention to verses 5-7. “Evil people don’t understand justice, but those who follow the Lord understand completely. Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich. Young people who obey the law are wise; those with wild friends bring shame to their parents.” These verses emphasize the importance of wisdom, honesty, and obedience to God’s law. How can we understand the importance of wisdom, honesty, and obedience to God’s law? Pursue Wisdom: Recognize the importance of pursuing wisdom and understanding in all areas of life. Seek to understand justice and righteousness, knowing they are essential for...

  • Day 2329– Philippians-7 A Son and A Brother
Welcome to Day 2329 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Philippians-6 A Son and a Brother – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 01/21/2023 Joy in Serving – A “Son” and a “Brother” – Philippians 2:19-30 Last week, we explored “Working Out God’s Inner Work,” and we concluded that it is only through the inner work of God's Spirit in our lives that we can progressively become more like Christ. This week, we continue our study of the letter to the church at Philippi. Paul is thankful for two close friends, Timothy and Epaphroditus, in a message, “A Son and a Brother.” Today's scripture passage is Philippians 2:19-30 on page 1828, in your Pew Bibles. 19  I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. 20 I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. 21 For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon. 25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. 29 So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him, 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.   It’s impossible to put a price tag on friendship. Our relationships with some people are so significant that we often liken them to family. Close friends not only help us; they transform us. Just as “Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” (1 Cor. 15:33), good company promotes good character: courage, leadership, humility, strength, faithfulness, and joyfulness. Proverbs 17:17 says: A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. Close friends prop us up when we’re weak, lift our spirits when we’re down, and push us when we wear out. Friends motivate us—sometimes even without words—to be more than we could be without them. As we observe their perseverance, we’re prompted to endure hardship. As we hang around a servant leader, seeds of humility are planted into our lives. As a godly saint stares down adversity with a smile, we learn how to have deep-seated joy amid frustrations and challenges.   We shouldn’t be surprised, then, that God’s Word is filled with references, accounts, and commendations of men and women who were faithful friends— There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a...

  • Day 2328 – Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 27:22-27 – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 2328 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2328 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we’ll delve into Proverbs 27:22-27 from the New Living Translation. In these verses, we’ll uncover insights into the importance of diligence, neglect’s consequences, and careful stewardship’s benefits. So, let’s not delay any further. Let’s uncover the wisdom within Proverbs. Verse 22-23: “You cannot separate fools from their foolishness, even though you grind them like grain with mortar and pestle. Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds.” These verses emphasize the importance of diligence and careful stewardship over one’s possessions. How can we understand the importance of diligence and careful stewardship? Recognize the importance of diligence in every aspect of life, whether it be in your work, your relationships, or your stewardship of resources. Be diligent in attending to your responsibilities, knowing that neglect can lead to undesirable outcomes. Cultivate a spirit of excellence in all you do, putting your heart into caring for the things entrusted to your care. Just as a shepherd knows the state of his flock and cares for them diligently, so should you be attentive to the needs of those under your care. Practice diligence in your work and stewardship, knowing it is the key to success and prosperity. Now, let’s explore verses 24-25. “For riches don’t last forever, and the crown might not be passed to the next generation. When the hay is harvested and the new crop appears and the mountain grasses are gathered in.” These verses caution against relying solely on wealth and emphasize the transient nature of material possessions. How can we understand the transient nature of material possessions and the importance of wise stewardship? Recognize that material possessions are fleeting and that true wealth lies in the wisdom of stewardship. Be mindful of the legacy you are building for future generations, knowing that riches do not last forever and that the crown may not be passed to the next generation. Invest your resources wisely, knowing that they are entrusted to you by God and that you will be held accountable for how you use them. Practice generosity and wise stewardship, knowing that true riches are found in using your resources to bless others and advance God’s kingdom. And finally, let’s turn our attention to verses 26-27. “You can make clothing from the wool of your sheep and sell it for a profit. You can purchase a field with the earnings from your crops. You might plant the field with rows of olive trees and never stop to gather the fruit from them or even taste the olives, but they will be there for the buyer.” These verses speak to the potential for profit and investment that comes from diligent stewardship. How can we...

In these verses, we’ll uncover insights into the importance of diligence, the value of wise stewardship, and the dangers of strife and discord. Reflect… So, without further ado, let’s dive into the wisdom of Proverbs. Verses 15-16: “A quarrelsome wife is as annoying as constant dripping on a rainy day. Stopping her complaints is like trying to stop the wind or trying to hold something with greased hands.” These verses highlight the destructive nature of strife and discord within relationships. How can we understand the importance of harmony in relationships and the dangers of strife and discord? Recognize the importance of fostering harmony and peace in your relationships, whether it be with a spouse, family member, or friend. Avoid engaging in quarrels or arguments that only serve to create tension and discord. Instead, seek to resolve conflicts peacefully and strive to cultivate a spirit of understanding and empathy in your interactions with others. Be willing to listen with an open heart and communicate with grace and humility, knowing that true harmony is built on a foundation of mutual respect and love. Now, let’s explore verses 17-18. “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. As workers who tend a fig tree are allowed to eat the fruit, so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded.” These verses emphasize the value of wise counsel and the benefits of diligent stewardship. How can we understand the importance of wise counsel and diligent stewardship? Recognize the value of seeking wise counsel from trusted friends and advisors who can offer guidance and support in your journey through life. Surround yourself with people who challenge you to grow and develop, sharpening you like iron sharpens iron. Additionally, be diligent in your stewardship of the resources and responsibilities entrusted to you, whether it be in your professional endeavors or personal relationships. Cultivate a spirit of diligence and integrity, knowing that it will be rewarded in due time. And finally, let’s turn our attention to verses 19-21. “As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person. Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied. Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised.” These verses speak to the nature of the human heart and the insatiable nature of desire. • Day 2326– Philippians-6 Working Out God’s Inner Work
Welcome to Day 2326 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Philippians-6 Working Out God's Inner Work – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 01/14/2023 Joy in Serving – Working Out God’s Inner Work – Philippians 2:12-18 Last week, we explored A Christlike Decent Into Greatness. “What’s the secret to a great life?” The Bible’s answer to that question isn’t long, convoluted, or complex. As indicated last week, we can sum it up in two words: selfless humility. This week, we continue our study of the letter to the church at Philippi. With the question, How can we allow God to work within us to become more like the perfect imager of Jesus Christ with selfless humility? Today's scripture passage is Philippians 2:12-18 on pages 1827 and 1828, in your Pew Bibles.  12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. 14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”[c] Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice>and service>coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. Examples are wonderful things. People who have gone before us and lived admirable and exemplary lives are valuable because they can show us how we ought to live. We can study the lives of great women and men throughout history who have lived inspirational and motivational lives and have set the stage for us to do the same.   We have many examples of good and godly people to imitate, but ultimately, we can look to the radical obedience exemplified in Christ’s selfless humility, as described in Philippians 2:6–11. He left the glories of heaven to take on inglorious humanity and live amid suffering, /sin, /and death. He veiled the brilliance of His divine attributes in the flesh and willingly accepted the limitations of human life. He ceded angelic adoration>and praise to become a victim of torture and, ultimately, of an excruciating death on a cross. And He carried out all of this in perfect obedience. Not one flaw. Not one inconsistency. Not one impatient word. Not one misstep or stray thought contrary to the Father’s will.   Mark Twain once wrote, “Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example.” What about an impossible example? I’m not a God-man. Neither are you. Only Jesus, the incarnate Son of God, could embody this kind of supernatural humility and miraculous obedience! How in the

  • Day 2324– Philippians-5 A Christlike Decent Into Greatness
Welcome to Day 2324 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Philippians-5 A Christlike Decent Into Greatness – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 01/07/2023 Joy in Serving – A Christlike Decent Into Greatness – Philippians 2:1-11 Last week, we looked into the lives of two devout persons who have been waiting all their lives for the coming Messiah in a message titled, The Oldest Bucket List: Simeon and Anna. This week, we pick up where we left off before Advent in our study of the letter to the church at Philippi. Today, we explore A Christlike Decent Into Greatness. Today's scripture passage is Philippians 2:1-11 on page 1827, in your Pew Bibles. 1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. To move forward from the first chapter to the second chapter of Paul’s letter to the Philippians, we need to take a step backward to Philippians 1:21, a key verse for the epistle: For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. Paul knew that to experience martyrdom and to be ushered into the presence of Christ would be a great gain. But he also knew that God had much more work for him to do in the here and now and that he was called to encourage others to live like Christ.   But how do we truly live like Him? How do we possibly begin to take even one small step closer toward the greatness>Christ exhibited as the God-man? How can we become an imager like Christ? Is there a specific series of deeds we need to do? Fruitless! Do we attempt to mimic His miracles?...
