Three mass shootings in a week. Gilroy. El Paso. Dayton. Three deranged, malicious scumbags took innocent lives for no reason. They spanned a broad ideological spectrum. They targeted people at random in seemingly random locations. Their only connective tissue was that they were hateful crazies who used guns to kill innocent people. What is the root cause of these tragedies and others like it? Guns? That's a superficial element. It's merely the weapon used to carry out these violent fantasies. They could have used bombs, knives, trucks or many other things to take human lives. They could have chosen a different tool to accomplish their goal- infliction of pain. Guns are just a means to a horrific end. The real question we face as a nation, as a culture, as a society is "what caused these scum to pursue that vicious end?" Taking away a tool from everyone will not influence or address the reason these scum picked up a gun and went hunting for sadism. This episode is a discussion about what causes these types of desires, how people become so broken and depraved and what action can be taken that will really impact the avoidance of these types of events in the future. We talk about real solutions in changing the cause of these shootings rather than simply focusing on the means. We also present a rough proposal of the federal gun license ( posthumously re-named the 2A Card as it is for verification of rights granted by the constitution rather than the source of those rights itself).
