The average price of one dozen eggs in the U-S nearly doubled over the last year…and the spike is demanding attention.

The federal Department of Agriculture plans to spend one billion dollars to tackle avian flu and repopulate flocks of laying hens.

News outlets including the Wall Street Journal report the Justice Department is investigating whether big egg producers are price gouging.
