Charles and David unpack the rollercoaster of the last two weeks of the Democratic Party presidential campaign. They dive deep, starting with Elizabeth Warren’s take-down of Michael Bloomberg at the debate in Las Vegas, through the Nevada caucuses, into South Carolina and Joe Biden’s phoenix-like rise. They discuss the departures of candidates and Super Tuesday surprises and Warren’s campaign decision yesterday.

Many voters felt privileged to see so many candidates up close. Being able to talk to so many voters in South Carolina was equally gratifying for many of us on the Common Purpose tour.  Virginia Anderson spoke with citizens at different rallies and on the street about how it felt to be immersed in the democratic process in South Carolina.Virginia Recorded the Church bells in South Carolina.

We had the rare opportunity to speak with voters from across the region. Ani Black talked with Clevonne Jacobs, a health care attorney, at a Tom Steyer event in Orangeburg, South Carolina.Virginia Anderson talked to a woman who called herself a Never Trumper encountered at an Amy Klobuchar event.Ani Black talked with two teen-agers, first-time voters, from Moncks Corner, S.C., at a Bernie Sanders event.Virginia Anderson talked to two voters at a Klobuchar event.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar only had a few events in South Carolina, as her campaign concentrates on winning delegates in Minnesota and the other Super Tuesday States. We saw her Wednesday, February 26th at Founders Hall at the Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site. Steve talked to Don Ostrom, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Gustavus Adolphus College, Minneapolis. He was one of Senator Klobuchar’s early political mentors and is still a friend and supporter.

We went to Greenville for a Buttigieg event Thursday, February 27th, but the organizers decided not to open it to the public. The Press took up too much of the available space, we were told, so only a few community members would be accommodated. One person left outside was Andrew Edmunds, who wanted to raise the issue of a Greenville County anti-gay ordinance with Pete Buttigieg  The Greenville County Council passed the resolution condemning homosexuality as incompatible with the County’s community values 24 years ago. 9 members supported it. 3 opposed.  Supporters of the Greenville area’s LGBTQ community are calling for the council to finally repeal the measure.   Bert Green and Steve Scher wanted to hear more about the issue.
