  • Lenny Williams on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez
Mr. Lenny Williams is one of the most frequently sampled artists I can think of. Everyone from Mobb Deep to Kanye West to Twista Scarface, to the Roots and the list goes on and on. This is because of his amazing vocals and the soulful way in which he sings. Mr. Williams is known for his time with the amazing funk group Tower of Power, but undoubtedly (and maybe it's because it's my favorite) I believe he is most notably recognized due to his rendition of Because I Love You. I say his rendition because I can't imagine that anyone could have written it that way.
But he is not done yet. He continues to make amazing music and some sizzling sexy music at that! We are blessed and honored to have him as a special guest on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez!

  • Spirit of Oya along with Mira & Irene Gandy in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez
This episode is a reminder of power of positive energy. Taking this time, right now and putting in the work to manifest your dreams.  We are pleased to welcome the beautiful Oya Thomas, a gospel music singer/songwriter and friend of the show to discuss her latest manifestations and workshops. She is also an author and an actress. She is intelligent, beautiful, and talented and a complete burst of light and love!
We are also honored to welcome Mira Gandy is a brilliant visual artist who;s work reflects themes of black beauty, race, female identity, and culture in such a way that it is easy to get lost in her works. It's amazing when a creation continues to create and nudges the imagination. She is said to be inspired by her mother, the legendary Irene Gandy  is the only Black female member of ATPAM (Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers) on Broadway. She has been a press agent for over 40 years.. She is a Tony-Award winning producer on Broadway for The Gershwin’s' Porgy and Bess and was a producer for Lady Day At Emerson Bar and Grill starring Audra MacDonald. It's easy to see how Mira is inspired by her mother. We are fortunate to have them both on the show and learn about what they will be doing next!

  • Melba Moore on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez
The legendary Melba Moore, Tony Award Winner, 4x Grammy Award Nominated, Actress, Singer, Teacher, Believer, Auntie to all who know her and beloved symbol of Black Excellence. She is legendary, not only in her personal accomplishments but in her willingness and continued effort in helping others. We have had a number of artists on the show who humbly thank and acknowledge Ms. Moore for her genuiness and her help in their careers. As for this program, Melba Moore was the very first legendary artist to give us a yes back in 2004 and that yes loaned validity to our platform and she continues to be one of our greatest supporters. When I see that Ms. Moore is commenting in our chats, watching, and enjoying our shows and interviews, I know I'm doing something right. She is a woman of God, a symbol of strength, beauty, longevity and feminimity. She is our Auntie Melba "Forever" Moore!

The Jones Girls consisted of sisters Brenda, Valorie and Shirley Jones. Their biggest hit was "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else". My personal favorite is "I Just Love The Man" but the ladies had many other hits and memorable songs such as "Nights Over Egypt" and "Who Can I Run To". Shirley was the first to make solo music and hit #1 on the R&B Charts with "Do You Get Enough Love" She continues to make beautiful soulful and rich music. We are excited to have Comedian, Actor, Author Richard Pryor, Jr on the show today to speak about his amazingly candid book. Richard's book is an honest look at a young man's struggles and survival. This is a courageos tell tailing filled with drama, comedy, love and expectation. I'm no book critic, but I am Richard Pryor fan and a human being who happens to be Afro American. I can relate in so many ways to this story and I wonder is Richard, Jr and I didn't cross paths in the village back in the day, both of us two bedazzled to notice the other. Well dammit, I see you now brother and I can't wait to chat! The book is a real page turner. Two Thumbs Up! Loved It! "In a Pryor Life" (Excellent Title by the way)

Roberta Flack was nominated for 14 Grammy Awards and won 5 of them. She also was the winner of the American Music Award. She is a prolific pianist and song writer. The music she created with the incomparable Donny Hathaway are all pieces of art. We take some time on this show to look back and listen to some of the music of this living legend.
We love the sleek and intelligent, talented queen Elisabeth Withers and thusly, we invited her back to the show. Now, we did speak with her regarding her Tony nomination for her outstanding portrayal of Shug Avery on Broadway's "Color Purple".  However, we didn't go deep enough into the R&B music. She has some awesome music with deep meanings and some just out and out sexy R&B. Looking forward to chatting with her again!

There is certainly something to be said about the harmonic vocals of siblings that can sing, but no other group, male or female was able to create what the legendary Pointer Sisters created for the world. These beautiful sisters gave us the big band feel of the Andrews sisters but laced in funk and gospel stylings. Listen closely and you will hear it all. Amazingly talented sisters, beautiful each one of them. For decades the Pointer Sisters have been a household name and for good reason. I remember seeing them on soul train back in the day. I remember when Bonnie ventured out and made us dance while her sisters continued making amazing music as well. He So Shy, but I'm not and that's why I'm gonna open up the lines so that we all can chat with the Pointer Sisters, "Yes We Can" right here on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez.
