Troy Bronstein is the owner of T-Best Talent Agency, THE TALENT AGENCY OF EACH AND EVERY QUEEN OF DISCO you can think of. Years ago when JaVonne set out to start interviewing legendary songstresses, Troy's name was the only name that kept popping up. If you want to hire this queen, you must speak with Troy. Well, finally Troy and JaVonne made a connection and through that connection the flood gates have opened. Bonnie Pointer, Robin S, Cece Peniston, Inaya Day, Linda Clifford, Martha Wash, and because of Troy, Evelyn C King appeared on this show about 3 times. One thing I will always appreciate about Troy is the way these legendary artists speak about him. The way he has cared for them. The music industry is not always kind to women, especially women of color. Troy has been a Prince amongst these Queens and for that I am thankful. Also, he has been exceedingly kind to this show. Leon continued to shine in musical roles such as Robert Townsend’s “The Five Heartbeats” (voted the #1 African American film by AOL), the Emmy Winning mini-series “The Temptations,” as lead singer, David Ruffin and the authorized biography of “Little Richard” both earning him NAACP Best Actor nominations.

Leon is also the lead singer of the band "Leon & The Peoples"  The group has made some really great music that we're going to get into on this episode in the Basement with JaVonne &Terez

Dr. Cherryl L. Thomas is board certified in Internal Medicine. She attended SUNY Downstate medical school and completed her residency training, RPSM, at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. The degree of masters of business of administration, MBA, was received post study at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She also obtained the proud designation of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Dr. Thomas is affiliated with some of the best hospitals in Central Jersey, including Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Saint Peter's University Hospital and the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro.She strives to provide the highest standard of compassionate, quality care to her patients. With years of experience practicing medicine, she is renowned for her attention to detail, and skill in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions and disorders.It is the goal of Dr.Thomas to promote a healthy lifestyle and empower patients, where possible, to positively impact their health by mindful choices and practices.

In addition to her professional activities, she has a personal interest in world travel, photography, dance and creative writing.

Best known for her Tony Award-nominated portrayal of Shug Avery in the Broadway musical version of The Color Purple, vocalist Elisabeth Withers is also a longtime singer/songwriter with a bent toward neo-soul and R&B. Born in Joliet, IL, 

Withers left home with a scholarship to study music at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. After graduating, she moved to New York City to attend NYU and graduated with a master's degree in 2000.

Prior to her appearance on Broadway, Withers sang backup for a variety of artists, including Celine Dion. Mary J Blige , Jennifer Lopez and Cher

It was also during this time that she began writing and releasing dance singles under the alias 

Elle Patrice. 

Fortuitously, it was Withers' two hit singles released under her alias, "Rising" and "Emotions," that garnered the attention of soul artist Nick Ashford, who directed Withers toward the auditions for the Broadway production of The Color Purple. Withers released her debut solo album, 

"It Can Happen to Anyone", on

Blue Note Records in 2007 , then in 2010 she released her  independent EP " No Regrets"

Dawn Tallman is known as the Queen of Gospel Energy and that title was bestowed upon her for good reason. Her unique vocal stylings takes you to church over house music dance tracks and somehow the spirit is moved and entranced in that energy. She can sing anything and everything and on this show we will be listening to and celebrating the one year anniversary of her most recent CD. The music is fire and Dawn's voice is amazing throughout

Steve Arrington joined the legendary funk group "Slave" in 1978 originally to play percussion. He started playing drums, moved up to backgound vocals, and eventually became the lead singer on songs like "Watching You" and "Wait For Me". His vocal stylings are amazing and after creating top charting singles with the group he ventured out to make some chart toppers of his own like "Nobody Can Be You But You" and my personal favorite "Way Out". He has continued to make beautiful funky music including some funky gospel music that we will chat with him about during this episode of Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez. Gospel Music tonight!

So much is going on in the world today. Otherwise healthy people are becoming sick and dying. The nations leaders appear to be lost and the people are afraid. Lost and scattered like sheep having no shepherd. We know the great shepherd and for that we shall not want. Tonight we will play music to uplift our spirits and touch our souls. We want to remind the faithful that we are never alone. We keep one another in prayer and while keeping ourselves safe.

We are in a dark place in this country and spirits are in need of healing as well as bodies. Can't do much about healing bodies, but I do know a doctor who can heal the body and the spirit. For most of us, music is a healing force. There is a special healing, an annointing if you will, in spiritual music so please tune in and tell a friend to listen in. Share the link and sing along. Tonight we celebrate the birthday of living legend, the Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan. Today is her birthday and if you know anything about JaVonne, you know she is a Chakaholic. Terez loves her too and will be holding it down, as we play as much Chaka Khan music as we can fit in 2 hours!
