  • Danetra Moore on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez
Danetra Moore is a woman with a rare vocal gift. She's been singing all of her life starting with church choirs and providing backing vocals for such artists as Keke Wyatt and Ledisi. In 2012 she stole our hearts with her performance on BETs "Sunday's Best" and shortly thereafter she released her gospel CD "Light in the Dark" which hit the Billboard Charts. She is now singing all music including some really sexy soulful R&B and we are delighted to have her on our show.

  • Marc Copage on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez
This show marks the beginning of Black History Month 2020. We have decided to kick off the month by celebrating the first television sitcom which depicted positive roles for Black people. The show was called "Julia" and it starred the always elegant and dignified Diahann Carroll as the lead with today's special guest, Marc Copage as her son Corey. This was the first show that starred a black person in a non stereotypical role. Julia was a nurse, strong, independent, beautiful, classy, and smart. Her son Corey was adorable, well spoken and well mannered. He represented my brother, he represented me, all of us black kids in the late 1960's and early 1970's who had to look far and wide for positive images of ourselves on the boob tube.  I recall watching the show just waiting for Corey's scenes. He represented us well! I don't know if he understood his role or the impact the show would have on millions, but he is a very important part of our history. Black History in America. The show was groundbreaking and in retrospect was the door opener for show like "Cosby" and "Blackish".  We are very pleased to have our Corey, Mr. Marc Copage,  Television's First Black Child Star on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez.

  • Lillo Thomas on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez
Can you recall what you were doing in the 1980's? Well, it was some time ago and although I can't remember everything I was doing but I can tell you one thing I was definitely doing...spinning vinyl and singing Lillo Thomas tunes with all my heart...loud and off key was I , but silky smooth and sexy crooning was he. Hits like "Holding On" "You're A Good Girl" "Settle Down" "I Like Your Style" "All of You" I loved them all. I recall seeing him in concert back then and after he tore it up on stage he announced something about the olympics and leaving the singing behind. My heart was broken but I will tell you, I never stopped listening to his music, from tapes, to vinyl, to CDs, to MP3s and whatever they come up with next, Lillo will always be on the top of my playlist AND not only did he come back, like I knew he would, but he came back and bought me a brand new song to love, "Drinkin". So join us as we welcome the legendary classic R&B Crooner Lillo Thomas to Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez.

  • CeCe Peniston on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez
During the 1990's dance music was evolving. It went from house to underground house. From disco to club music. From Classic dance to dance music. For those of us who experienced and loved dance music during that era, it's hard to imagine a world without the light and airy, yet forceful intro music and then the exclamation "Hey, Look what we got!" on the song " We Gotta Love Thang" but let's take it a step further and try to imagine a world without the classic hit, "Finally" one of the best songs ever and it's still to this day one of "everybody's" favorite songs. With Billboard topping hits like Finally, We Got a Love Thang, Keep On Walkin', you might be tempted to put her in a classic dance music box, but the sistah can sang! No boxes here. It Was Inside That I Cried and my more recent favorite, "Sick". She is a wonderful songstress, songwriter, and Queen and she joining us today for Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez

  • Nathan James on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez
This year has been tumultuous politically. As Americans, we have all lived through a political season unlike any other we have ever experienced before. Albeit, each administration is different and they have all had their woes, Reagan had Star Wars, Gorbechek and his refusal to say the word AIDS, Bush had Guantanamo Bay Detention Camps and Afgahanistan War Crimes, Clinton, well, there was the blow job, Bush Jr was thought of as the worse president ever until recently, he had 911 and was just not bright, then you had Obama who had the tan suit and grey poupon mustard as well as a bunch of disrespectful rich angry white men plotting against him and blocking everything he tried to do, along with black folks who a democratic base who didn't vote in congressional elections to ensure he had the support he needed, not to mention those who often wanted to hang him and called his wife and children monkeys, which leads us to the current state of affairs, a man in the white house who mocks the disabled, disrespects gold families, who plans to take millions in military money to build a stupid wall which is going to force some to give up their homes, who has children sleeping on floors in cages at the boarder, asylum seeking families separated unjustly, familiies of military and some who have served being deported, we have issues of the emoluments clause, threatening to take away social security which is our money, someone who was known to hang out with the most notorious human trafficker, Mr. Epstein, and who has been accused of not only assaulting wormen, but also a 13 year old girl and that allegation was found to be credible. We have someone in the white house who continues to show disdain for our allies and our democratic norms, but who listens to, I would even say obeys Putins and fawns over dictators, someone who, thanks to all of us and Nancy Pelosi, is being impeached.  We're gonna talk about this today with Nathan James.
