Sweet Abyss resident Malzof has been DJing for a decade, playing their own signature style of transgender dance music. As a life-long music collector, their sound archives go deep. Heavily influenced by IDM, Ambient, experimental music, breaks, sampling, and dance music of all kinds, they are not afraid to make it blend. They see DJing as an extension of all the work they do- to bring people together, to encourage moments of release and joy, and to support people in showing up in their true expressions as resistance against hegemony.

You may have heard Malzof play a freaky downtempo set at last year's Sploosh alongside Yessi, or perhaps somewhere across the region - from just about everywhere in Pittsburgh to Philly, NYC, Ithaca, Rochester, Montreal, Detroit or on your radio waves across the world. Malzof brings their creative vision and multimedia art practice into the ways they share sound.

e-v is excited to be back on the airwaves and get more involved in Philly, having their roots in college radio starting in 2014 at WRCT 88.3FM, and briefly at WKDU in 2019. They got their start in Pittsburgh’s dance music scene as a founding member of the former Hot Mass/In The Weeds collective @gfx-pgh. Genre-agnostic, they’re a lover of straight-forward dance music with a twist: punk rock slop, laptop pop, acid nonstop, tunes with a drop, and f-a-cop hip-hop.

Mya is a queer dj and record collector that specializes in funk, jazz, and electronic music, building sets ranging from energetic bops to lush, soulful, rare sounds. Her interest in these sorts of sounds stems from music sampled in hip hop and electronic, as well as the Japanese jazz and city pop revival on YouTube. In addition to being a dj and record collector, she is a keyboardist and flutist, and occasional producer.

Kiernan Laveaux is a connective rhythmic energy conduit & ecstatic beat conductor from the Great Lakes. A boundless ball of discordant energy, she’s an adventurous spirit - conducting the vibrant forces of our world that are transmitted through the unbridled passion contained within her DJing.

As a “one-of-a-kind American DJ”, she’s best known for her arcane technical skill, propulsive dancefloor catharsis, & hyper-creative approach behind the decks. Her style is all-embracing & expansive, but unified by a restless sense of ecstatic momentum, dissonant euphoria, & kinetic exuberance - all woven together by entrancing pulsations of uninhibited groove & alchemical sensation. “CDJs become like instruments in her sets; her liberal use of FX, pitch-bending, & jog-wheel trickery invokes the dubwise production techniques of Lee Scratch Perry, Dennis Bovell, and Adrian Sherwood, as well as DJ heroes Larry Levan and Ron Hardy. Technicolor wormholes of distortion and delay stretch out from percussive passages as she mixes, in a way that feels freaky, playful, and purposeful - honoring the past, while gazing wide-eyed into the future.”

Inspired by forces of universal chaos & the innovative, experiential visions found within midwestern electronic music, she's since embarked on a lifelong journey of channeling binary dissolving phenomena throughout our known universe via her unbridled musical vitality, her debut collaborative “Pancake of the Infinite” EP with JZKL, long running residency on The Lot Radio, & the multifaceted Sweet Abyss imprint.

Originating from within Cleveland's multiversal DIY underground, she materialized through the rhythms of life & her loved ones - soaking up influence in everything from the enchanted & irreverent joys of disco, the raucous mayhem of hardcore punk & noise gigs, the spatial manifestations of dub, nonlinear revelations & outer reaches of free jazz expressionism, bewitching industrial conjurations, lineages & contrasts of freeform DJing across the world, & dancing with many weirdos in rooms full of fog, neon mesh, & skate ramps.

DJ JAMZ is a Black, queer, gender nonconforming DJ/event producer imagining the dancefloor as a site of embodied liberation, resistance, expression and play for QTPOC. JAMZ builds community through music and curates monthly experiences that feel like spending time with chosen family. JAMZ’s most celebrated series is Watermelon Glow; an outdoor sunset party where everybody is a VIP. JAMZ mixes genres to tell one fluid, musical story with African, Caribbean, House & Soul influences.
