This week for What Where When-sday, we focus on health and wellness with The RESET: An Immersive Sound Healing Experience with Davin Youngs at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Sunday.

Having been in Nashville for a while, the trio Veaux were trying a bunch of different things musically, but nothing clicked until they decided to make what they want to make unapologetically. Over the next two years, the band would release singles, including their most streamed song “Strawberry Blues,” and tour the country. Now they've put together their first official project as Veaux is the new EP titled Love in the Midnight.

 Chappell Roan released her debut, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, back in September 2023. You’ve probably heard "HOT TO GO!," "Red Wine Supernova," and "Pink Pony Club" on WNXP and all over the internet. Just this week, Roan earned her first top 10 Billboard-charting track with "Good Luck, Babe!" Her career breakthrough has been fun to watch this year, especially if you are a longtime fan. WNXP’s resident Chappell Roan expert Carly Butler joins me to talk about Pink Pony Club: Chappell Roan Night at Brooklyn Bowl this Friday — and the impact her music has made on fans. 

On a June afternoon, it seems like business as usual at the independent music company Thirty Tigers, as staffers file into its Nashville conference room, and colleagues dial in remotely. But this isn’t just any marketing meeting. They’re joined by Holly G, the founder of the Black Opry platform and its new record label, and the first artist she signed, Jett Holden. Everyone’s here to strategize about a one-of-a-kind album launch.

In 1991 the artist Angelica took a song from Rosie and the Original, kept the bubblegum pop melody, but swapped the instruments out for a fat synthesizer and released this version of Angel Baby, it was a hit, reaching number 29 on the Billboard hot 100.That singer is Angelica Garcia’s mother. Garcia has released Gemelo, our Record of the Week on WNXP. It’s an album that is similarly in love with the sounds of a synthesizer. Just like her mom’s album.

Deanie Parker has worn many different hats at Stax Records. From a songwriter, singer, arranger, collaborator, and publicist for the since the beginning of the label existence. Decades later continues to persevere the history of Stax. President and CEO of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and Stax Music Academy and executive director of Soulsville Foundation. The Grammy Award winner joined us to discuss her legacy with the legendary label out of Memphis, Tennessee.

This week for What Where When-sday, we talk about an event that kicks off next Wednesday through August 7. Queer Qlassics — that’s “classics” with a “q” — returns to the Belcourt, Nashville’s nonprofit film center. Films will include "The Color Purple" (July 10), "Saint Laurent" (July 17), "The Last of Sheila" (July 24), "Hard Candy" (July 31), and "Hairspray" (August 7). Our special guest is Belcourt historian and archivist T. Minton. 

It’s a challenge to capture the energy of a gritty rock club once an artist graduates to larger stages and better resources. Yet Ty Segall continues to make music that feels as dynamic and spirited as his early DIY days. The prolific musician has released 15 studio albums as a solo artist, and that doesn’t even begin to cover his other projects and collaborations. With every release, Segall pushes the boundaries of what’s expected. He’s proven he’s more than fuzzed out, distorted guitars, but continues to bring a youthful sense of experimentation to everything he does. Clocking in at 66 minutes, his latest solo effort Three Bells embodies this sense of sonic exploration while staying true to Segall’s garage rock royalty status.

L.A.-based indie artist Hana Vu's sophomore record 'Romanticism' explores the inner workings of her mind at age 22. Working with producer Jackson Phillips (Day Wave), Hana Vu layered synths and beats under her strong vocals and alt-grunge rock leanings on this follow-up to her acclaimed debut LP 'Public Storage.' Her tour stops in Nashville July 30.

There are legends and elders in music, and then there’s T Bone Burnett. He’s produced more than his share of historic projects over the last six decades. This year, he put that care into an album of his own. Reporter Justin Barney went to Burnett’s house to find out how the WNXP Nashville Artist of the Month keeps finding new life in old things.
