TICKETS REMAIN FOR FIRST EVER FROTH FEST

Froth Fest 2023 will take place at Island Park in Williamsville on August 12. The event will feature more than 25 local breweries, local food, and live music from The Strictly Hip. The beer tasting portion of Froth Fest, 12:30-3:30pm, is ticketed. General admission tickets are $60 and VIP tickets are $100. VIP includes early access, exclusive Liquid Lollipop release, and custom glassware. Froth Fest will take place from 12-10pm and live music, food, and Froth beer trailers will be open to the public for free. 

ONE-EYED CAT BREWING DROPS FIRST CANNED BEER

Williamsville’s One-Eyed Cat Brewing has released their first ever beer in cans – Helles Belles, a light and crisp 5.1% Munich Helles-style lager with notes of bready malt, an underlying hop bitterness and a slightly dry finish. Helles Belles is available in 16oz. 4-pack cans at the brewery right now for $14.99. 

VIP CRAFT BEER FUNDRAISER AT BUFFALO WING FEST

This year’s Buffalo Wing Festival, which takes place on September 2, will feature a craft beer VIP experience. Breweries include 42 North Brewing, Steelbound Brewing, Ellicottville Brewing, Resurgence Brewing and more. Tickets are $75 and include admission to Wingfest, access to the Buffalo Bills field, $15 in wing/food tickets, craft beer tastings for two hours, souvenir plate and tasting cup and a free bottle of Dan-O’s seasoning. 

RESURGENCE BREWING PLANS LAGER RELEASE, BLOOD BROTHERS COLLAB

Resurgence Brewing is bringing back their I Want My WNY Lager on August 18 (5pm), an American-style light lager with slightly sweet notes of corn. The beer will be available on draft and in 16oz. 4-pack cans to go. For the release, there will also be a Buff-a-logo pop-up shop at Resurgence’s Chicago St. taproom. The following day, on August 19 (12pm) Resurgence will release Little Brother West Coast IPA, a collaboration with Toronto’s Blood Brothers Brewing. This sessionable West Coast IPA is the little brother of Bigger Brother IPA, a 6.5% IPA with Idaho 7, El Dorado and Strata hops, which was brewed at Blood Brothers. Little Brother will be available on tap and in 16oz. 4-packs cans to go. 

STEEL LEAF BREWING TO HOST SPECIAL MOE’S POP-UP TAVERN

Come September, Steel Leaf Brewing will be transformed into Moe’s Tavern from The Simpsons. From Sept. 8-17, a portion of the brewery will become everyone’s favorite dank pit watering hole from the populated animated series, complete with iconic front entrance and bar. This is a ticketed event and limited and timed tickets must be purchased in advance online. The event will feature an exclusive food menu, as well as a special beer brewed for the event by Steel Leaf. Costumes are encouraged. For more information, visit moespopup.com

BILLS-THEMED BEERS RETURNS AHEAD OF START OF PRESEASON 

Just in time for the start of the Buffalo Bills preseason this Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts, a number of Bills-themed beers have returned to brewery and store shelves across Western New York. In addition to staples such as Thin Man Pills Mafia and Community Beer Works Let’s Go Pils, Resurgence Brewing Circle the Wagons Pilsner & IPA, Ellicottville Brewing The Herd Crushable Lager and Fan Zone IPA, Flying Bison Buffalo Pils, Big Ditch Make Me Wanna Stout and No Punts Intended Pilsner, Brickyard Brewing Number 14 East Coast IPA and Number 17 West Coast IPA, 12 Gates Pancho’s Legacy Lager, and Steelbound Brewery AllenTown IPA to name a few. Southern Tier’s flagship IPA even got a red, white and blue can art makeover for the new season. Look for these beers wherever great beer is sold.

Quite possibly the best beer Ellicottville makes, and based on their portfolio, that's high praise for this Football-Season staple. Grab one wherever great beer is sold.

August 3 marks National IPA Day and a number of local breweries are celebrating, including Eli Fish in Batavia and Southern Tier in Buffalo. The latter will offer $10 IPA flights and $5 IPA crowlers all day long beginning at 11am on Aug. 3, and the former will release a new hazy IPA – The Greatest Of All Warriors, a double dry hopped New England IPA with Rakau and Motueka hops, on Aug. 2. It will be available on draft and in cans to go.

This Saturday, July 29 marks the seventh anniversary of Buffalo Brewing Company and the brewery is celebrating with beer, deep dish pizza from Buffalo Deep Dish, live music from Community Service (2pm) and exclusive merch raffles.

Froth Brewing has teamed up with Buffalo’s own, Def Jam Recording artist Benny the Butcher, on Coconut Key Lime Pie, a new heavily fruited sour ale.

While July may soon be over, there is still time to celebrate Christmas in July and what better place to do so than at Sad Boy Brewing. Bring the entire family on July 29 as none other than Santa Claus will be at the brewery (1-4pm). All night (1-11pm) there will be Christmas music playing, an Ugly Sweater Competition takes place at 9pm and all day long, $1 from every pint sold in the taproom will be donate to Roswell Park.

Hofbrauhaus will debut their newest summer seasonal, Hofbrau Keller, on August 3 (6pm) with help from the Buffalo Beer League, who will serve as celebrity keg tappers for the event. Members of the BBL will lead the ceremonial parade and then will help to tap the keg of Hofbrauhaus’ newest lager. Keller is 5.1%, is brewed with Herkules, Perle, Magnum, and Select hops, and features a hoppy aroma, touch of fruitiness, and a refreshing, subtle hoppy finish. Die Haus Band will take the stage at 6pm. All guests in attendance, 21+, will receive a complimentary Keller after the tapping. While National IPA Day is August 3, Flying Bison Brewing is celebrating the believed beer style all month long as the entire month of August is Hopfest, which will feature IPAs on draft and in cans. The hoppy selection is led by newer offerings, Hazy Chain Pineapple Double IPA (big, hazy and smooth with a slight nose of pineapple) and Down By the River IPA (Belgian style IPA featuring Cascade, Chinook, Centennial and Idaho 7 hops fermented with Belgian Ardennes yeast), and also features hoppy brews such as HopCat IPA, Jucie Caboose and DubMaster DDH IPA, on draft. The brewery will also have their Buffalo Kush DIPA in cans (big hop rush featuring Simcoe, Mosaic and Columbus hops).

Western New York’s newest brewery, Shalooby Loofer Brewing, will officially open its doors at 10737 Main Street in Clarence on September 1.

While 42 North Brewing and Ellicottville Brewing are 42 miles apart, they have come together to brew a special New York State Pale Ale to highlight the popular EA2EVL Fondo bike ride, a 42-mile ride that supports the Erie Cattaraugus Rails-to-Trails project. 

Buffalo’s Top Dog and Coolest Cat will be celebrated at the annual Resurgence to the Rescue pet-friendly party on July 23 (12pm) at Resurgence Brewing.

Resurgence will also debut a pair of collaborations with Auburn’s Prison City Pub & Brewery, 4AM in Buffalo Gose, Strawberry Margarita and Lime Margarita, on July 22 (12pm) at Resurgence in the Park at Delaware Park.

Local rock and soul band Farrow will headline Jam in the Gardens at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens on July 20 (5pm). 

For this year’s EVA’s Bidwell Concert Series, Thin Man Brewery and the Elmwood Village Association have collaborated on a new beer, Forever Elmwood West Coast IPA.

Citing changes in the craft beer industry brought on by the COVID pandemic, Thin Man Brewery’s Elmwood taproom, their headquarters for the last seven years, has closed its doors. While the brewery will remain in operation for beer production, the kitchen and taproom will close. “The last seven years at Elmwood have been full of great times, amazing people, and so much more,” the brewery said. “On behalf of the staff here at Thin Man, we are beyond grateful to our patrons, friends, and family for all the support we’ve had by our side.” Thin Man’s Chandler Street taproom will remain open as usual.

On July 14, Thin Man will release a special collaboration with Vermont’s Von Trapp Brewing, Northeast Light, a light, grassy and slightly crackery American lager. The beer will be available on draft and in 12oz. cans to go.

Named and brewed in honor of Buffalo winning the award given to the snowiest city in upstate New York for a second straight year, Buffalo Brewing Company will release Golden Snowball Cream Ale on July 13. 

Larkin’s Magic Bear Beer Cellar have teamed up with Lilly Belle Meads for their latest collaboration, BEARy Peach Sangria, a white peach sangria style mead with apricot, pear, strawberry, and blueberry, with a hint of mint, which will be released at Magic Bear on July 14 (5pm).

The 2023 Cobblestone Live Music & Arts Festival, which takes place July 14-15 in downtown Buffalo’s Cobblestone District, will feature a host of local craft beer and cider options. 

Big Ditch’s flagship session IPA, Dayburner, took home a gold medal at the recent 2023 U.S. Open Beer Championship in the Light IPA / Session IPA category.

It’s that time of year again – time to gather together in the woods and toast giant mugs of traditional German beer. Yes, you guessed it – it’s once again time for Waldfest, the annual Festival in the Woods, which takes place on July 16, 12-7pm, at Spring Garden Park (3838 Two Rod Road, East Aurora).

Thin Man’s inaugural Weirdly Wonderful Beer Festival, which was set to take place July 22 at Front Park, has been postponed due to ‘unforeseen circumstances.’

On July 15 (3-5pm), you can spend an afternoon with Pressure Drop Brewing head brewer Karl Kolbe as he guides a small group (seats limited to 20) through six different hop-forward beers, going over the brewing process, ingredients, branding, and more.

On July 6, Hofbrauhaus Buffalo will hold a keg tapping of their Pilsner beer with special celebrity keg tappers Jim and Mary Ann Sandoro of The Buffalo Transpiration Pierce Arrow Museum, who will be chatting the Thomas Flyer, which will be on display at the museum until August 6.

Eli Fish is once again taking over Batavia’s Jackson Square for the 2023 Eli Fish Carnival on July 8 (4pm). The event will feature plenty of Eli Fish beer, a trio of new seltzers (Bomb Pop, Blue Hawaiian, Red Gatorade), craft vendors, dunk tank, carnival food and drinks, Knoggle, cornhole, live music from Jim E. Leggs Trio (4pm) and The Real News (7pm) and more.

Beer Kind Brewing, a new brewery-in-planning in the Town of Tonawanda, has launched a new Indiegogo campaign with a goal of $15,000. Money raised will go towards furnishing the taproom with tables, games, TVs, and communal-style seating.

Enjoy craft brews, food trucks, and live music on the grounds of the Martin House estate at the 10th annual Bricks & Brews, which returns on July 7 (6pm). The event will feature beer sampling from 25 Western New York breweries and cideries, live music from PA Line, and food from Coyote Café and KT Caribbean Cuisine food trucks.

Shalooby Loofer Brewing, a new brewery located at 10737 Main Street in Clarence, has announced tentative plans to open by the end of July. 

Beer Kind Brewing, a new brewery venture from Alex & Jen Buckley, has announced plans to open in the Town of Tonawanda. The brewery will operate with a 5-barrel brewing system, a self-pour tap wall including craft beer, seltzers, New York State wine, liquor, cider, non-alcoholic beverages, and a light snack menu to start.

Resurgence Brewing has acquired the Blackbird Cider Works brand from Donovan Orchards, LLC. According to a press release, this acquisition represents Resurgence’s commitment to diversifying and expanding its craft beverage offerings.

East Aurora’s 42 North Brewing have announced plans to open a second location in the theatre district in downtown Buffalo at 674 Main Street, on the 3,500-square-foot ground floor of the Wurlitzer Flats building. 

Big Ditch Brewing is holding a triple can release, with two returning favorites and a new IPA. Returning are Stark White Dad Shoes IPA, brewed with New Zealand Riwaka and Australian Galaxy hops, and Cannon Call New England-style Double IPA, brewed with Mosaic, Nelson Sauvin, Idaho 7, and Simcoe hops. New this weekend is 6 Million Acres West Coast IPA, which features firm bitterness, citrusy and earthy flavors, and a smooth finish.

This year’s Erie County Fair Beer, Hamburg Brewing Sticky Face, and cider, BlackBird Cider Summer Cider, will both be available wherever great craft beer and cider are sold beginning this week. Sticky Face, a watermelon wheat ale, will be packaged in 12oz. cans and will be sold in 6-packs at Tops Friendly Markets, Consumer’s Beverages and other retail outlets. The Erie County Fair Summer Cider, which features flavors of locally-grown apples, loganberry and tart cherry, will be sold in 12oz. 4-pack cans at Tops Friendly Markets, Consumer’s Beverages and other retail outlets.

Flying Bison is kicking off their month-long Belgian Beer Month Celebration on July 1. They are celebrating with their Belgian White, a Belgian wheat ale spiced with coriander and orange peel, and Down by the River IPA, a Belgian style IPA featuring Cascade, Chinook, Centennial and Idaho 7 hops.

1927 Brew House is launching a new line of 1927 Brew House Seltzers, including Loganberry, Watermelon, Peach and Guava. The brewery has also released a pair of new fruited sours – Strawberry Rhubarb Sour and Cherry Pomegranate Sour. The former is an American kettle sour with bold, tart notes of cherry and pomegranate, while the latter is a lightly tart kettle sour with strawberry rhubarb notes.
