For decades, award-winning human rights lawyer, disability advocate/trainer, and professional speaker Lorin MacDonald has demonstrated her leadership, passion, and commitment to accessibility and inclusion in her volunteer and professional activities, all informed by her lived experience as a woman born with profound hearing loss. Recognized as one of Canada's top disability/accessibility voices, Lorin has made many aware of the COVID-19 challenges faced by Canadians living with disabilities. She took part in the creation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Standards in both Customer Service and Health Care. 

The ground-breaking Butler-Henderson v. Pentagram Bar & Grill Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario decision released in 2020 confirmed that restaurants cannot discriminate against people with disabilities who need access to their restrooms. The recipient of numerous awards from her community, her university, the province, and the legal profession, Lorin was UWN’s 2020 Woman of Inspiration Diversity & Inclusiveness Award honouree.

Louise believes in gender equity and supports the research that having women in business improves business results dramatically. She works tirelessly to improve lives by providing a weekly podcast of 'Conversations for the next generation' and by having authored a book where 20 women share their personal stories of struggle and triumph. In this episode, we interview Maeghen Cotterill - Owner 5 Elements Martial Arts | Women of Inspiration™ Book Contributor.

Maeghen Cotterill is an Elite Martial Artist and entrepreneur with a long track record of helping people achieve their goals and dreams in the Martial Arts. Maeghen has 30 plus years of Martial Arts experience, holds multiple different Black Belts (Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Kickboxing and a 5th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate as well as a red sash in Kung Fu), and is an 11-time World Champion. Maeghen started martial arts at the age of 8 and now owns and operates one of the largest martial arts schools in Canada. 

She has been on Team Canada and coaching Team Canada athletes since 2005 and, as of 2018, is President of the World Kickboxing & Karate Union Canada for both Ringsport and Matsport. Maeghen is the founder and is also currently World President of the Global Women in Martial Arts Initiative, which is made up of 70 countries worldwide.

Marija Pavkovic is the Founder and CEO of MaKami College, one of the largest Alberta-based Private Vocational Colleges. Originally from former Yugoslavia, Marija's family moved to Alberta when she was only seven years old. Growing up in a hardworking immigrant family left its mark on Marija.

In 2001, being inspired by her parent's plight to get educated in Canada, Marija founded MaKami College at a young age. Now two decades later she is a serial entrepreneur and sits on the board of directors for multiple companies. Marija has been widely recognized for her success in business. She is an advocate for many and an active philanthropist in her community.

TO Vocal Arts Festival and Mississauga Italfest, and an avid community and arts supporter she passionately supports and mentors emerging artists. Experience and passion – these are what I believe help me transform cleaning into a higher quality of life for my clients with Clean Club Calgary. After building a successful career within the corporate world, working as an Executive Assistant for corporations such as Citibank, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the Calgary Flames, I took a leap of faith and started my own residential and commercial cleaning company. Combining my love of accountability, physical work, and solution finding, I set out to create a cleaning business built on honesty, loyalty, trust, AND quality cleaning. Nearly a decade later, I’m proud that my company, Clean Club Calgary, is inspiring just that – loyal clients because of transparent conversations for improved quality of life.

To continue serving clients, I maintain my IICRC Certified House Cleaning Technician designation, along with providing opportunities for my team to enhance their skills. I believe that improving quality of life doesn’t just mean for clients, but for my staff as well.

Karen began her career in the marketing field working with one of Canada’s largest mall developers.

Karen then became the CEO of DASCH, a leading not for profit agency that provides community housing for people with intellectual disabilities. Her skills have guided DASCH with innovative programs that have helped provide residential housing and programs for hundreds of Manitobans with intellectual disabilities.

Karen has an Executive MBA from Harvard University and has been sought after by organizations such as Children Believe, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada Foundation, The Winnipeg Football Club, Safe Haven Foundation, and as an advisory group member for the Government of Manitoba. She is also a past recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal of Honor
