In today's reflection from Surah Al-Isra, ayah 25, we look at what Allah azza wa jal says about what is within us, and what He says about the ones who keep returning to Him.

We talk about:

• Why this ayah resonated with me personally while caring for a parent

• How ayah 25 connects to ayah 24, lowering the wing of humility to our parents, and the moments we fall short

• What Ibn Kathir's tafsir says about righteous intention: Allah azza wa jal knows what is within us

• Why perfectionists can struggle to believe this applies to them

• What "awwabin" means, the ones who sin, repent, and return again

• How being hard on ourselves makes us hard on the people around us, including our spouses

Every blessing we have is from Allah azza wa jal. But it's often only when hardship touches us that we actually turn to Him and cry out.

In this episode, I reflect on this pattern through the story of Yusuf alayhi as-salam, and how he chose to dwell on Allah azza wa jal's favor rather than the trials that came before it, even after decades of separation from his family.

‫فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡا۟ فَقُلۡ حَسۡبِیَ ٱللَّهُ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ عَلَیۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُۖ وَهُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ﴿ ١٢٩ ﴾‬

• Muhsin Khan and Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali:

But if they turn away, say (O Muhammad SAW): "Allah is sufficient for me. La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), in Him I put my trust and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.

• Muhammad Hamidullah:

Alors, s’ils se détournent, dis : "Allah me suffit ! Il n’y a de divinité que Lui. En Lui je place ma confiance; et Il est Seigneur du Trône immense !"

At-Tawbah, Ayah 129

قُل لَّن يُصِيبَنَآ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا ۚ هُوَ مَوْلَىٰنَا ۖ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

“Say, ‘Nothing will ever befall us except what Allah has destined for us. He is our Protector. And in Allah let the believers put their trust.’”

Surah At-Tawbah 9:51

Surah At-Tawbah 9:51 reminds us that nothing reaches us except what Allah subhannahu wa ta’alaa has written for us. 

In this episode, we reflect on tawakkul, focusing on what we can control while trusting Allah with what we cannot. I also share how this applies practically to preparing for and strengthening your marriage through Blessed Relationships.

🎉 Alhamdulillah! In today’s episode, we are going over Juz 6 with Surah 5, Ayah 2.

In this reflection, we’re reminded about the sacred limits of Allah SWT and also  about fearing Him in how we interact with one another.

One of the things that stands out to me is that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala is teaching us that someone else’s behavior does not determine who we are going to be. The question for the believer is not only:

What did they do?

The question is:

Who does Allah Subhanahu wa Ta‘ala want me to be in this situation?

The last two points in this ayah also made me ask:

What are we helping one another become?
