Her work empowers Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) to choose how they live as they age. She brings to AARP her experience as a “leader of leaders” through her community service in promoting and empowering the AAPI community.
Ms. Kwok was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2010 to chair his Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The Commission served as the “eyes and ears” of the community advising the President and the federal government about the issues impacting the AAPI community.Previously, Ms. Kwok was Executive Director of Asians & Pacific Islanders with Disabilities of California. She was also the Executive Director of the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation in San Francisco.
Amy M. Le was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States in1980 at the age of five with her mother and cousin. She worked in the technology and telecommunications sector for twenty years but in 2017, when her mother passed, she pivoted her career and rebranded herself as a novelist.
SNOW IN VIETNAM was her debut historical women’s fiction, written as a tribute to her mother’s heroic decision to flee Vietnam after the fall of Saigon. Today she’s an author, speaker and publisher. Her company, Quill Hawk Publishing, helps indie authors publish their work. Amy is the co-founder of The Heart Community Collection, a resource for the Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) community, and serves on the board for Vietnamese Boat People Podcast.
In 2015, Flora was inspired by her then seven-year-old son to write a story about his favorite video game. That fun project unexpectedly expanded into a book series and rebranded the stay-home mom as the author and illustrator named Renee Libra. Aiming to give back to the community and inspire her audience, she built on her newfound titles to be a presenter, a speaker, and a participant in cultural and literacy events at local schools and organizations. While the pandemic cancelled all in-person activities, she used the downtime to work on her next book, make new connections, and develop her marketing tools in anticipation to pick up where she left off.
