Day 2: Read Luke 10:1-12 and discuss: If you are not ‘called’ to go, and if you already give, generously, for missions, what else would God have you do? How did you arrive at your current state of mind? Did you pray for guidance, willing to do whatever God wants you to do? OR did you decide on your own and assume that what you are willing to do, is exactly what God would have you do?
Day 3: Read Luke 10:1-12 and discuss: Think carefully over your life for the last few weeks and/or months. List out the specific opposition you have experienced because you are a Christian who is sharing the gospel. If you can’t remember specific opposition that has come from sharing the gospel, what does that mean for your answer to the first question in Day 1, above?

Jesus replies to the man: what does he mean by his words? What does it reveal about those He does call vs. those He does not call?
Day 2: Read Luke 9:57-62 and discuss: What kind of “good things” have you forsaken to follow Christ? In what way have you forsaken family? • Following Jesus – Part I
    Luke 9:57-58—Following Jesus - Part I
    Lesson 1: __________ is the ________________ of military recruiters (Mark 10:21; Luke 5:32, 9:23, 14:25-32).
Lesson 2: Getting __________ is ________, but following Jesus is hard (Matt 7:13-14; John 6:28-29 cf. Matt 11:28-30, Acts 15:10, Gal 5:1).
Lesson 3: To follow Jesus would you forsake (Part I) ______________ ________________ (Luke 9:57-58; Matt 8:16). (NOTE: We’ll cover Parts II and III next week).
Lesson 4: __________ __________ what each person must sacrifice to follow Him (John 2:24).
    Family Worship Guide
    Memory Verses: Rom. 12:14-16
Day 1: Read Luke 9:57-62, 14:25-32 and discuss: In what way(s) is Jesus different than military recruiters? In what way(s) are some churches like military recruiters? Examine yourself. Why are you following Jesus? Consider the last time you shared the gospel with someone. Did you explain what it means to trust Christ and to follow him? Did you ‘water it down’ at all? (“it” = life as a disciple of Christ)
Day 2: Read Luke 9:57-62 and discuss: Explain the tension between belief as “easy” and following Jesus as “hard”. What does “following Jesus” mean, practically? Identify 2-3 specific examples from the last few days or week that demonstrate you follow Jesus, rather than this world and/or your own desires. Consider the people you know who are not yet believers. Why do they not follow Jesus?
Day 3: Read Luke 9:57-62 and discuss: How did Jesus respond to the man who said he would follow Him wherever he went? Why did Jesus respond this way? Examine yourself. Have you made rash vows to do something for the Lord, or to ‘follow Jesus wherever He goes’? What desire(s) prompted your vow? Are you following Jesus now? Why? What specific things have you forsaken to follow Jesus? What - specifically - have you not yet forsaken in order to continue following Him?

  • Viewing Those Who Reject Christ
Luke 9:51-56—Viewing Those Who Reject Christ
Lesson 1: Violence is never the ______________ _______________ when Jesus is rejected (Luke 9:54-56; 1 Kin 19:17; Rom 13:4; Matt 10:14; Titus 3:9).
    Lesson 2: (Part I) Some __________ will become __________ (Matt 13:28-30; 2 Pet 3:9):
    (Part II) Such as ________.
(Part II) Such as the ______________________ (Acts 8:14).
    Lesson 3: The Gospel can change a “______ of ______________” (1 Sam 26:8, 2 Sam 16:9-10, 19:21-22 cf. Acts 8:25).
    Family Worship Guide
    Memory Verses: Rom. 12:11-13
Day 1: Read Luke 9:51-56 and discuss: What was Jesus’ mission? Why did the Father send him? Why did these Samaritans not receive Jesus? Did all Samaritans in the Gospels reject Jesus? As the Church, in America, who are like “Samaritans” - who are we likely to lump all together because ‘some’ reject Jesus?
Day 2: Read Luke 9:51-56 and discuss: If we lump people together because they Jesus, and refuse to persist in evangelism, missions, and church planting, whose mission are we choosing to neglect? What would your country, city, or family be like if those who had the Gospel refused to persist in missions? Examine yourself: prayerfully consider if you obedient to the Great Commission.
Day 3: Read Luke 9:51-56 and discuss: If someone rejects Jesus, how are you (based on your flesh) likely to respond? How should you respond? What made the difference for John between Luke 9 & Acts 8? So, then, if you are not currently obeying the Great Commission in an “Acts 8/Apostle John” mindset, why? Have you forgotten something? Are there potential disciples at home that consume most of your time? Could you take your children to the park once a week and pray for an opportunity to meet another mom? Men, what opportunities could you pray for?
Pray for those who lead, feed, and care for the flock, and their families (Col. 4:3, 2 Thess. 3:1): Pastor Doug & John LaPierre
Pray for these church members / families: (1 Tim. 2:1, Eph. 6:18, Col. 1:9): Ben & Marylynn Sours, Ed & Francine Sorensen, Gary & Linda Sprague, Scott & Summer Steenbarger, Kent & Melina Stephens
