  • Exiles Live Sincerely
    Exiles Live Sincerely
    2 Peter 3:1-10
Pastor Doug Connell; February 11, 2018
    MAIN IDEA:
Sincere exiles who remember God’s actions avoid acting like scoffers.
If I am to be a sincere follower of Jesus, and not act like scoffers:
    LESSON 1: I need _______________________. (vv.1-2; 2 Cor. 5:20)
    LESSON 2: I must not overlook God’s _________________. (vv.3-8; Phil. 2:12-13; Heb. 3:12; cf. Gen. 6:5, 11-13)
LESSON 3: I should soberly consider that in Jesus’ Second Coming he will ___________________________________. (vv.7, 10)
    LESSON 4: I must not overlook God’s _________________. (vv.8-9)

    The Joy Set Before Us
    Lesson 1: God’s __________  ____________ share in the full _______________ of Christ. (Rom 8:17a, Gal 4:7)
Lesson 2: Like Christ, we will inherit:
    (Part I) _____  _________ (Heb 1:2, Rom 8:32, Rev 21:7)
    (Part II) a _____________  ______ (Rom 8:23, Rom 7:24-25, Phil 3:21, 1 John 3:2, 1 Cor 15:51-55)
    (Part III) the __________ of _____ (Dan 7:18, Rev 2:21, 2 Tim 2:12, Rev 21:3-4, 1 Cor 15:50, Matt 25:34, Acts 14:22, James 2:5)
    Lesson 3: The inheritance is for those who _____________ (Rom 8:17b, Rom 8:30, Matt 13:5-6, Matt 13:20-21, 1 John 2:19, Rom 8:35-39, 1 Pet 4-7, 2 Cor 4:7-10, John 6:39, John 10:28)
Lesson 4: ________ gave us the model for __________________ (Heb 12:1-2, Rom 8:18)
    Family Worship Guide
    Memory Verses: Phil. 3:10-11
Day 1: Read Romans 8:12-18 & discuss: Why is it important for us to know our “status” as a child of God (if we profess to be Christians)? What practical effects should that have in our everyday lives?
Day 2: Read Romans 8:12-18 & Eph. 3:6, Heb. 11:8-9, 1 Pet. 3:7 and discuss: What does it mean to be an “heir” with Christ? What does it not mean? When we feel unworthy, what and who should we think about instead? Consider a time (as a Christian, already) when you did you feel unworthy, unloved, alone, and/or unaccepted. How could these truths about being “joint heirs” with Christ have changed your thinking? Do you know someone who feels these sorts of things? How would you counsel them about their true “status”?
Day 3: Read Romans 8:12-18 & Romans 8:23, 32 and discuss: Like Christ, what specifically do we inherit? What must we also be willing to endure (as Christ also endured)? (Look at Rom. 8:17, again) How must we make sense of those who profess to be Christians but eventually fall away? What passages were provided as explanations, in the sermon? How does Rom. 8:35-39 comfort us, who claim to be Christians, yet experience trials and temptations still?
Pray for those who lead, feed, and care for the flock, and their families (Col. 4:3, 2 Thess. 3:1): Jim Donald and Dave Zumstein
Pray for these church members/families (1 Tim. 2:1, Eph. 6:18, Col. 1:9): Kami Couch, Andrew & Dorothy Criss, Kathy Cunningham, Paul & Maddie Cunningham, Robert & Katy Cunningham
Pray for “kings” and those in authority (1 Tim. 2:2): Local: Cowlitz Co. Sheriff Mark S. Nelson; State: State Rep. Liz Pike; Nation: Vice President Mike Pence
Pray for the Gospel to Spread Among All Peoples (Matt. 9:37-38):
