          vi. Do you need to spend some time weeping and mourning over your sin?
          vii. Do you realize how it has grieved your Heavenly Father?
          viii. Be broken before Him
          ix. Receive His Grace
          x. He will lift you up!
          xi. He can’t do that until you bend low and humble yourselves.

b. Inner turmoil – within – selfish ambition

c. Earthly, unspiritual (sensual), demonic – John 10:10
- i. He wants to ruin your relationships by polluting your thinking
3. Ungodly Wisdom is bent on seduction and destruction
a. Disorder and every vile practice
4. Godly Wisdom is first, Pure.
a. Free from defilement clean; spotless; Holy; Righteous

b. Life-giving – John 10:10
5. Godly Wisdom is Other-focused – v17; Philippians 2:1-4
a. Peaceable

b. Gentle

c. Open to Reason

d. Full of Mercy

e. Full of Good Fruit

f. Impartial

g. Sincere; Genuine
6. Godly Wisdom produces an Abundance of Righteousness through intentional Peacemaking!

b. Where does this maturity come from?
              i. From a tested faith – James 1:2-4
              ii. Heb 5:11 – 6:1
                       - From a depth in the Word
                       - From a discerning experience in ministry
3. Mature Christians recognize that the Holy Spirit must control their speech.
a. v 6 – 9 – the destructive power of the tongue

b. James 1:19-21 – emphasizes how this works – be slow to speak…receive the implanted word – the Meat – grow to maturity

c. Galatians 5:22-23 – self-control – “I can’t help it” is not a valid excuse for a Christian

d. James 1:5-7; Godly wisdom in play, not double-minded, but mature; believing
4. Teachers (Mature Christians) depend on God’s wisdom before speaking – v 10-12
a. They maturely recognize that they will be unstable otherwise.

b. They ask and receive Godly Wisdom - James 1:5-8

a. We are lured away…

b. Let’s talk about fishing – How many lures do you have in your tackle box? Why so many? If I was a bass in a lake in South Carolina on a cool October morning; how would you catch me? If I was a catfish in a farm pond in late spring, what would do the trick? How do you know that?

c. What’s the key to knowing which lure to use?

d. What do all of these lures have in common, that the fish can’t see until it is too late?
3. Temptations follow a disastrous progression – v 15 - Gen 3:6 – The serpent used ‘forbidden fruit’ with Eve; What does he use with you?
a. Lust of the flesh – I want

b. Lust of the eyes – Proverbs 27:20; Ecclesiastes 1:8 – that looks good

c. Pride of Life – I must have it!
4. Being tempted is not a sin – Jesus was tempted in the wilderness
5. When you give in to the desire, that is sin – You don’t have to – 1 Corinthians 10:13-14
6. As sin grows it leads to death – John 10:10 – The Enemy offers Guilt, Shame, Bondage, Condemnation, Destruction, all gift wrapped in pretty packages – bait with a deadly hook just beyond sight….
7. By contrast - God gives good gifts – even the way of escape – but, also a way of focus, growth, love, peace….that insulates us from temptations and makes the ones that do get through downright unappealing….Philippians 4:8
8. Trust His timing
9. If you are in a sin right now and you know it is destroying your life – stop, Spit the Hook; repent, get honest with God and be set free!
10. He has much better gifts to give – Forgiveness, Peace, Love, Purpose, Strength, Joy that we talked about last week.. He’s a Good God, who gives Good Gifts.

a. He gives us Hope beyond what we deserve or can imagine when we surrender our plans to His.
5. He preserves a worldwide remnant – because He has a plan and a purpose.
a. Yes, He judges sin and the consequences are often catastrophic – with incredible pain and suffering – but in the midst of judgment He is always working good from bad.

b. There is hope in the Lord! Genesis 12:3 is still in effect – as is the Great Commission; through Abraham’s example of Faith and Trust in the Lord, we can have the righteousness of God through Christ.
6. Prophets like Jeremiah in Judah and Hosea and Joel in Israel all offered the same Hope beyond the present judgment.
a. Jeremiah 29:11-; 70 yrs in the future

b. Hosea 14:4-7;

c. Joel 2:28-29 fulfilled in Acts 2 and then vs 30-32
7. And beyond this all remains a future rest for the people of God – Hebrews 4:9-13 – Hope remains – but this Hope is only accomplished His Way – according to His Plan; by His Word
8. Our Hope is Secure in Christ – because of His Great Sacrifice for us. He is God’s provision for our sin. He took our judgment.
