Jesus is Lord of the Journey & the Destination
(Lesson 2A: Learn to ask Better Questions)
Q1 - Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?
There are at least 3 problems with that question:
1. They don’t yet understand who Jesus is.
a. Teacher? This might be a reasonable question
b. Creator? Almighty God; God of the Wind and the Waves i. There might be a better question
c. Acts 2:36 – by the Holy Spirit, Peter will testify – ‘Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.’
d. Now – today - We do know who He is i. So, when we question Him, let’s remember who we are talking to!
2. They don’t yet understand how much He cares for them.
a. “Don’t you care?” – ever ask that
b. He cared enough to become one of us
c. He cared enough to die for them – and us
d. He cares more than we could ever imagine!
e. He’s the one who said ‘Father, forgive them, they don’t know what they are doing.’ As they lifted up his cross – He knew what He was doing!
f. 1 Peter 5:7 – Peter wrote that!
g. How much does He care for you? Right now?
h. He cares enough to allow storms to come to test and prove our faith…3. They don’t yet understand their problem.
a. They don’t have a storm problem
b. They don’t have a water problem
c. They don’t have a mortality problem – John 10:27-30
d. They have a faith problem – v 40 - 1 Peter 1:6-9
e. You? Do you understand your problem in the midst of the storms of Life?4. They missed the Promise embedded in His instructions – v35
a. Let us go across to the other side.
b. “Together we will journey to a destination”
c. We’ll see the importance of their destination in a few weeks, but now they are in the classroom of life, facing a storm at sea – while following the clear instructions of Jesus. – Sleeping Jesus. Who is giving them a pop quiz – a Faith Test. Who will they trust in a Storm?5. When it is all over and the waves are calm and the wind has stopped; and the
rebuke was settling in – They ask a better question –
Q2 - Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and water, and they
6. How you answer that question will determine your faith level.
a. If He is just a teacher, how far will you trust Him?
b. If He is the Lord of Glory; the Creator God who made and controls the water and the wind; how far can I trust Him? All the way, my friends.
c. You can trust Him all the way Home – John 10:27-28
