Today we're looking at Cornelius. And if you grew up in church, you might remember Cornelius as the Roman centurion who was visited by an angel, sent for Peter, and became a Christian. That's the story. But I want us to see something bigger today. And to understand why, we need to back up. Quite a bit. As I always say: The Bible was written FOR us, but it wasn't written TO us. . . And if we're going to understand what God was doing in their lives, we have to understand the part of the story they were living in. Because when we pull a Bible story out of its larger context, we can miss the very thing that makes it significant. (Compartmentalization) So today, I’m going to tell a story.

The faith of Dorcas became visible in the way she lived and loved. The first thing scripture mentions about Dorcas was that she was a believer in Jesus… a disciple … a follower. Her good works were evidence that her life had been severely impacted by experiencing god’s love.
