In this episode we discuss the current state of the arts and what the future looks like for BIPOC, disabled and LGBTQ+ artists. I was hella fortunate to have 2 amazing BIPOC women to get real, drop gems and provide a little hope for all creatives out there during these crazy times.

Kano Kid - Animator | Artist | Mild Mannered Hooligan
Yooooo, I’ve known this “mild-mannered hooligan” for 10 years now. We know he’s an amazing animator and artist but I wanted to go beyond that and talk about diversity in the Animation industry, when keeping it real goes wrong, being your friend’s only true hip hop fan, his health evolution and the “N” word for good measure. Check out the convo when 2 out of the 4 #YaHeard show crew (#thankssket) get together to keep it trill.

Dr. Rachel Raimist - Director, Professor and Community builder
Dr. Raimist’s story is inspirational. We spoke the morning after we all lost Ruth Bader Ginsburg and our convo was for sure appropriate. We get into how it feels being the only woman, and sometimes the only person of color in white male dominated spaces. We discuss her journey of being a single mom in that “Rap Life”, getting her PH.D, getting tenure at the University of Alabama then leaving that tenure to pursue her dream of directing again. She shares how she met Ava DurVernay during “Rap Life” and how she was later, impacted by the Ava effect. Dr. Raimist now has multiple tv director credits including Queen Sugar, Greenleaf and Roswell with more on the horizon. I make sure during our convo to point out that Dr. Raimist has been uplifting other women and so many others since I’ve known her and it is amazing to see her thrive.

Eric Kohler , VP Partnership Activation for the Global Partnerships division at AEG Presents
I’ve known Kohler since college. Because of him I have had quite an amazing music industry ride. We talk about his music industry history, the passing of his father from Azheimer's and Parkinson's disease and how he maintains his creativity. He’s one of the nicest people I know in life let alone the music industry.

First full blown episode of WTYM but this one was just raw because of the type of day it was. A rollercoaster of emotions with the loss of Chadwick Boseman. Heard the news a couple of hours before this episode was recorded. We do have The Supernatural Bear’s first segment this round (recorded a few days prior). I’ll do a better job of introducing myself on the next episode and there will be less popping of the mic, I promise. This is a WIP, work in progress folks. Thanks for coming along for the ride. Safe travels to the other side Chadwick Boseman. Gracias por todo.
